In a recent Killzone.com update, Guerrilla Games is giving up more details to one of the Helghast's more formidable foes. From the looks of it, the Heavy Soldier could very well be a thorn in the side of many players.
This new breed of soldier towers above your standard Helghast troop which only adds to his list of intimidating features. However, to keep the game balanced and not give any unfair advantage to this monstrosity, you can expect to see him moving sluggishly and slow. Don't let his speed fool you, the power he packs more than makes up for his sloth-like demeanor. The Heavy Soldier happens to pack a StA-6 chaingun/grenade launcher that is supplied ammo by a pressurized gas tank located on his back. Luckily for us, the can is somewhat exposed, so if you can squirm your way behind him, you should be able to take this bad boy down. You can, of course, take him down with conventional methods, but his full body armor can prove to be a hindrance.
From the development side of things, Guerrilla had some fun making the Heavy Soldier. To make him more realistic, they built this baddie from the ground up, giving him more life than just a larger scaled version of the typical enemy. The development team created a brand new set of animations to give him a more original feel.
Lead animator, Bart Wisjman had the following to say on the subject:
"Probably our biggest challenge was to get the walk cycle of the Heavy Soldier just right, because if we wanted to achieve any sense of realism, this character needed a truly heavy footstep to match its overall posture. After initial (and hilarious) mock-up sessions in our backyard, we decided we also needed to add custom start and stop animations."
Killzone 2 is on pace to reach its true potential of being a great addition to the PlayStation 3 lineup. We'll be bringing you further coverage of the title as we draw closer to its release in 2009.

At least this enemy will make the game harder, adding more strategy to the gunfights!

@CGIQuality
Gameplay hasn't impressed me all that much. I would have to go read a couple of reviews and talk to a couple of friends. And PSU way to take out the fun in meeting this behemoth for the first time. Now all we have to do is walk around this lumbering Helghast.
