Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal has been confirmed to take the lead role in upcoming film adaptation of Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film takes place in 6th century Persia, casting Gyllenhaal in the role of a young prince named Dastan.

Together with princess Tamina (played by Gemma Arteron), Dastan must subvert the plans of an evil nobleman looking to acquire the powerful Sands of Time, granting the user the power to rule over the entire world.

Bruckheimer commented: "We've been fairly fortunate with some our leading ladies.”

"Some of them have gone on to become major movie stars, going back to Nicole Kidman in a movie I did a long time ago called 'Days of Thunder' to Keira Knightley out of ('Pirates of the Caribbean')."

Speaking on the film’s budget, Bruckheimer merely said, "It's not one of our smaller productions."

Production is scheduled to begin this July in Morocco and England.

Stay tuned.

Jake looks nothing like the main character this could turn out very bad. But bruckheimer is directing it so we shall see.

Hmm, a movie based on a game.  No matter how good the game is, these never turn out to be good.  Plus, wouldn't it have been nice to have a lead actor that was actually Persian?

i think jared leto would fit this perfect. This movie needs someone who could look like a middleeastern warrior and gyllenhaal just doesn't do it for me.

I think due to all the time they've devoted trying to save Africa from itself and worshiping Al Gore as our "glorious savior", Hollywood has forgot how to come up with an original idea.  You know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel when the only movies they make are remakes of old movies or movies based off of old TV shows, comic books, or (in this case) video games. What's their next "glorious" inspiration...some pornos they found late at night while surfing the internet?

Jake wouldn't have been my first choice, or even in the top 10 for that matter. But hey, he was supposed to play Peter Parker in Spiderman, so I guess it might work.... I think this movie will be like all other Game inspired movies. Epic Fail!

Hollywood makes some bad choices for game-to-movie characters.

just as i expected. im excited to see jake, jared leto might also work but hes such a tool im sure he'd change the character as much as he could.

but its alright since jake is an excellent actor and he'll be able to bring good things to the role. hopefully jerry wont turn it into just some action mess.
