Warner Home Video has finally announced a release date for one of the most anticipated movie series to hit Blu-ray and HD-DVD thus far.
That's right, on December 11th; the Harry Potter series will be available in high definition, just in time for Christmas. The latest film, Order of the Phoenix, will be available by itself, or as part of a special box set, which will include all five Harry Potter movies currently released to date.
Both HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions of this release will include A&E documentaries in standard def, entitled "Trailing Tonks" and "Fun and Games." These will coincide with the usual making of features and other various behind the scenes vignettes. Also said to be included are several, never-before-seen deleted scenes.
Like 300 and Blood Diamond, however, the HD-DVD version of The Order of the Phoenix will have three exclusive features, including an "In Move Experience" video commentary done by several of the cast members, downloadable content, and the ability to assemble your favorite clips into a montage. These extra features come at a price though, driving the price to USD 39.98, five dollars above the USD 34.98 priced Blu-ray disc.
The gift set will be a Limited Edition, and come with a price tag of USD 149.98, and come out on the same day. There is no word yet as to how long this will be available or when the movies will be available to purchase on a separate basis. As of now, HD-DVD owners can import the fourth film, "The Goblet of Fire."
Stay tuned for more information on video and audio specs, and other features and release dates here at PSU.com.

What does PlayStation has to do with this?
harry potter lol. hu cares.
Killercop: PSU also covers Blu-ray news. This is a very big title for Blu-ray and is surely going to be a huge seller this Christmas season.
OMFG! one of the most anticipated movie series to hit Blu-ray so far... Harry Potter! Yippeee Diddleee deee wooopoo! Oh my goodness let's just thank our lucky stars we purchased a PS3 so we can watch Harry Potter movies all day and all night - I agree with Sony now - Games dont matter - yes we should all enjoy watching Harry Potter 356 times in a year right? You guys love Bluray and will surely watch the frikken movie a few hundred times right? I mean you would not pay all that money to watch it just three or four times ...
What does Playstation have to do with this? Good question - I'd say Nothing - it's just another smelly HD Blowray fart to enjoy while your waiting waiting waiting for games.
will these blue-ray version of harry potter be on one blue-ray disc?.you know all five in one blue-ray.
awesome
@ The Cleaner...then what do you have to say about the PS2 and Xbox when it came out? They both played DVDs...
sad how 360 fanboys are the worst i've ever encountered
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS A DREAM COMETRUE!!!!!
i was wondering if they would ever come to Bluray!!!!!!
*throws party*
u guys complain too much seriously.....have a coke and a smile and stfu
psn id: gingo.... ehhh great i think, this isn't really playstation news but cool none the less
the harry potter movies blow. the books are 100x better so go read them. and there really should be a blu-ray section I would think. we wanna focus on games on this site I think.
Blu-Ray is a major part of the PS3, thats why there is news on this site about Blu-Ray. PSU keep'em coming....
The fate of Blu-Ray is directly related to the fate of the PS3. If either fail, they both fail. This is awesome news. Not sure how anything negative can come from this article, unless you are against good news....
@MBChrono - I honestly hope not. Playstation should still be allowed to succeed if Bluray fails. Seriously there is a fair chance it will fail. Its crazy taking that sort of risk anyway so why take the chance?. Say Newscorp (Fox) bails on Bluray then what are we going to say. "Buy Disney & Sony Tristar movies only and all the rest suck"?
I'd like Sony to spend $150 million buying back all the exclusive game titles.
Mate think about it - Playstation is about games - so long as the games are excellent, lots of exclusives, and the most third party game variety for us to choose from - thats great! That should be all that matters. Harry Potter movies isnt going to save PS3 - I'd say the Magnificant Seven: MGS4, Devil May Cry 4, God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, Guitar Hero 4, Burnout X, and Grand Theft Auto IV should all be PS3 exclusives, and these alone would generate more demand for PS3 than all the dumb r-ss HD Bluray on HDTV with HDMI' Bullcrap combined.
Everyone has their own favourites - I really like Silent Hill (its the game that got me into Playstation) Ive also got every Ace Combat game including the first "Air Combat" on PSX, I liked Syphon Filter series and Dark cloud factored in me buying a PS2 early and I ador Rez & Amplitude... IE: games got me into PSX & PS2 not the fact I could play audio CD's on PSX and DVD's on PS2. I always had the option of VHS or buy a DVD player for movies but I never had a choice if I wanted Devil May Cry - I had to buy a PS2...
Bottom line: Sony are saying that they dont care if we loose Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill and any other game series. They dont want to spend money to make sure we exclusively get these games or trying to defend the last remaining exclusives - instead they are spending all their resources pushing Bluray... All the stories are Bluray - The priorities are all screwed up (see the prior Square Enix story Final Fantasy should not be at risk - no matter the cost) - Thats all Im saying guys and that's why I'm so ticked off about Bluray. The priorities are all F**ked up. We have a very expensive console with the smallest user base, half the exclusives gone and no games worth snot. We are even low on the priority list for most developers thinking about crappy ports - delays delays delays. Oh and now they ripped out hardware PSX & PS2 backward compatibility to save a few bucks - Its all wrong.
It's not all about the games people. The PS3 was created as a home entertainment centerpiece. Now, the Harry Potter movies on Blu-Ray is a great thing. It will be a monster seller when it comes out for current Blu-Ray/PS3 owners. And if nothing, raise the sales of the PS3. So stop complaining... you're driving me nuts.
nothing big, should probably be on HPU.
What does PlayStation has to do with this?
The Cleaner has a GOOD point. Its true Sony use to have so many exclusives, its almost like sony dont give a monkeys any more, and now youve got that WaN%er Bill Gates splashing his cash at the developers or is it just that that the games industry has gone so money orrientated that developer dont give a beep either. Sony should have protected their exclusives at all costs, then they would have head huge HW sales. Must admit though M$ have really done well in terms of games catalogue, yes they have had an 18month lead but they have a few games i would like to see on the PS3 but i bet it doesnt happen, command and conquer for one.
