BIA: Hell's Highway 'Realism' trailerSony Computer Entertainment Inc CEO and President Kazuo Hirai has admitted he was “surprised” by Phil Harrison’s decision to resign from his position with the company and join Atari.
Speaking during an interview with ThreeSpeech, Hirai said he had no knowledge of Harrison’s plans at the time, but added he was "very happy for him to take on some new challenges."
"At the time, I didn't know he was going to Atari. It was obviously a surprise when he told me he was going to move on," he stated.
"But, you know, it's a small industry and he's obviously remained in it and from his perspective, it was a great thing to move on to a new challenge. On his last day, I was in Tokyo and I called him, and said I was sad to see him go but, at the same time, I was very happy for him to take on some new challenges."
Formally head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Harrison announced his departure from the company in February this year, before assuming his new role as President of Atari parent, Infograms, in March.

JUST so we're clear...
Hirai is happy for him to take on new challenges
Also
Hirai thinks it was a great thing for him to move on to a new challenge
For a challenge Harrison's going to be served, ATARI is in such a bad position "jumping straight into the ocean" sounds more truthful then "jumping ship"...
I miss Big Phil. Guy was a great speaker and was just great really.
sad to see him leave but life goes on. SOME WILL JUST NOT LEAVE, LIKE ME
we miss u phil =//
@Gekidami
When Atari fall he's welcome to come back.
Instead of hoping atari will fail, how about hoping that the man improves the company into something worth while to challange the evil of EA and the growing scourge or Activision.
psn id: gingo... Phil will be a big miss for sony but he might make atari a respectable company again after years of disgraceful games and ruining its original good name
Harrison, bottom line was a great person to interview. He kept it as real as one could be during his interviews and to PS fans, seemed very down to earth and someone most gamers regardless of which side
Not really sure what happend there possibly could have been friendly terms with him just wanting a lighter load with more hands on designing. or the more likley something happend idea. either way he's in a good spot and i think i speak for all ps3 fans when i say go kick some AS$ with ATARI Phill.
I wish Phil luck at Atari and hope he can help make it back into the respected and powerful company it once was. It's obvious though that Phil took a lot of heat and perhaps an internal corporate smackdown over Home. He wasn't really heard from after the initial delay of Home was made public. Something clearly made him unhappy, persona non grata around Sony or a combination. Regardless, I have the feeling we'll be seeing a lot more from Phil in the future. He'll definitely be a great asset for Atari and essential to the possibility of their comeback.
I don't care, sorry.........
Is it really necessary to continue on about Phil leaving?
