"I won't play Resident Evil 5," says Mikami-san

Resident Evil mastermind Shinji Mikami has admitted that he is unlikely to play the upcoming fifth instalment in the Survival Horror franchise, suggesting that doing so would "just cause me stress".
"I probably won't play it. I won't like it, because it's not going to be the game I would have made," he told Official PlayStation Magazine. It'll just cause me stress if I play it. I think it could be fun for gamers to play it, but not for someone who has developed Resident Evil games.”
"If I see anything in Resident Evil 5 that isn't done well, I'll be angry!" he huffed.
Elsewhere, Mikami acknowledged the obvious similarities between Resident Evil 5 and its predecessor, though remained adamant that the franchise will need to “reinvent” itself again should a sixth instalment ever transpire.
"That's fine, isn't it? I think Resident Evil 5 doesn't need to change the series, but Resident Evil 6 will have to reinvent the series with another full model change or else it won't be able to keep on going,” he said.
Regarding his forthcoming projects with Suda 51 and Sega, Mikami admitted juggling two titles was “difficult”, "but I'm director on my game for Platinum Games and producer on the game for EA. So if Suda does his job properly, my workload will decrease."
Resident Evil 5 is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 13, 2009.

So If Kojima moved on from the Metal Gear series and refused to play any of the sequels it wouldn't be newsworthy? I think this is newsworthy, and I also happen to think that Mikami is right in what he said. -

Yh I won't be playing this one either...
For RE6 I think it should take place in the wastelands of Raccoon City with a new gameplay system and have real PROPER Zombies in it again !!

@ darksora - you are correct! He said this in an interview with OPM UK in issue 24, November 2008... which hit the shops on 30 September. Page 79, for anyone who's interested. So it's at least 2 months old.

Granted I'll buy it and like it but really.............this isn't a true resident evil game in my opinion. They need to get back on track with the feeling of the first 2-3 games with zombies and zombie dogs and..............zombie other things. But graphically and fun-factor-wise......oh yeah. This game looks fun. Even if I'm not really interested in the African setting either.

Actually it's more like having ababy and then someone else pushing you out of the house and raising it differently than you would have. You dont want to know how he turns out because if he turns out to be a jerk you;d blame yourself for not being there to raise it right.
He has a right to voice his opinion. RE has had to grow and become different even the zombie genre in general has had to evlove a little over time or it gets stale. Although RE5 has a lot in common with RE4 it's not like that's a bad thing. 4 was pretty damn good compared to what we had before for like 3 or 4 itterations.

Let me guess, it needs more pre-rendered backgrounds and a camera that hates you so much it won't let you see the enemy until its chewing on your neck? I've played the old RE games and while the were good, I welcome the new RE as well.

The last time they reinvented RE the result was DMC,so i'm gonna be a HAPPY man if they do anything similar to RE in the near future.

I wont be playing it either. I gew up with 'proper' Resident Evil games, not a third person L4D. Untill Capcom do a real Resi game, they won't be getting my dosh.

I also 'grew up' with the Resi games (even though I was in my mid-20s when the first one appeared) - but lack of zombies aside, I thought RE4 was the best in the series by far. Better looking, and more immersive than its predecessors. I can't wait for RE5.

so what its his loss.im still going to buy and play resident evil 5.everyone that still are b**chin about zombies.u havent played every re game and dont know the story line behind re games. if u have noticed after raccoon city was bombed in re3 it destroyed the zombies and all evidence of it and umbrella was the only ones responsible for the zombies but now thier company it finished for now so there wont be zombies DUH but once wesker revives umbrella the zombies will make a return because wesker has a sample of the T-virus and the G-virus but has not done anything with it yet.so im going to get RE5 and play the heck out of it i cant wait

Well... its not like the first three Resident Evil installments were perfect right? I mean the first one especially had many, many flaws. Still a great game; but it was far from perfect. So its kind of ironic for the guy that created the series to state that if something isnt done right he'll get annoyed. Personally i think the guy's an idiot.

it doesn't surprise me, resident evil is an awesome game but it's not really survival horror anymore, it's really more of an action game.

So this dummy, (and some of you) prefer to control human beings that behave like Tanks from an 8-bit Nintendo game? Turn with right and left, then press up to go forward = a very stupid and difficult system for proper interaction.

I don't understand the hate from some of they RE5 defenders. I thought the control system for the 'proper' Resi games were fine and I can still play them jsut as well today, as I ever used to when I was 9. It's the fact that RE5 isn't Resident Evil anymore, it's more of a bang bang action game than a survival horror, the games used to be all about tensions and the jumpy factor.. but when your being chased by 100's of 'infected people' it's not scary anymore, its not tense, it's just a 3rd person shooter.
