ID Software working on a new project

Posted on May 31st, 2007

ID Software have revealed they are currently working on a whole new franchise based off a brand new engine from developer John Carmack.

Many gamers were very impressed when the Doom Engine was first released, especially with how it brought real time shading and extraordinary graphics. Now ID Software are planning to blow people away with yet another engine that is unnamed at this point but will be bringing a whole new franchise along with it.

ID commented: “We are working on an all-new franchise: it's not Doom, it's not Quake, it's not Wolfenstein, it's not Enemy Territory, it's not even Commander Keen, It is a new id brand with an all-new John Carmack engine and I think that when we show it to people, once again they'll see, just like they saw when we first showed Doom 3, that John Carmack still has a lot of magic left.”

A lot of the magic the Doom 3 Engine has to offer will be shown in the up coming Quake Wars due out later this year. With Quake Wars nearly finished ID said its important for them to keep developing new internal projects like Doom to stay on top of the business. The last internal project the company had was Doom 3 in 2004 which utilized technology never before seen and was a major hit on both PC and Xbox.

Final comments from ID: “The new stuff that we're working on does have a brand new engine that John has been working on, actually is still working on today. We can’t really talk any details about it; we'll see about when the timing is right for an announcement. We like to be able to talk about stuff that we can show at the same time and it's not really ready to show yet."

ID is known for being a company that can not only make great games but also bring completely new technology along with the games. ID currently has Quake Wars and several portable games for phones hitting stores this coming year. The company has yet to name either the game or the engine but have confirmed that both are in the works for PS3 and 360.
