Ignition Entertainment has confirmed that The King of the Fighters XII will be ported to home consoles in 2009.

The latest instalment in the venerable 2D beat ‘em up franchise will be given a high definition make over for its home console debut, replacing the sprites of old with crisp, vibrant high resolution combatants crafted solely by hand.

Ignition boss Ajay Chadha commented: “Dreams never die!” adding, “I've been a huge The King of Fighters fan since 1994 when the game first debuted and I know original fans will be as excited as I am about this ground breaking instalment of this very popular series. And just as importantly, The King of Fighters XII should be a treat for the new gamers who've just been introduced to the hugely popular franchise."

The publisher has yet to nail down a specific release date and platforms, though you can expect a barrage of info to be hitting your screens as soon as we get it.
