Insomniac hasn't yet reached full Blu-ray disc capacity

According to Insomniac CEO Ted Price, upcoming sequel Resistance 2 is larger than its predecessor but still hasn't reached full capacity of a 50GB Blu-ray disc.

"Yeah we're right up to the edge," said Price. "It's bigger than the first Resistance but we haven't reached the Blu-ray disc capacity."

From what we were told at the Resistance 2 hands-on preview event two weeks ago, Resistance 2 is over double the size of the first title, which hit around 22GB. With two complete campaign modes and a deep online game, it's no surprise that the game is in need of hefty storage.

The hotly anticipated FPS is set to release this November.

    Nice.  The bigger the better.  Means more audio, textures etc are all uncompressed, which gives us better quality!  I love these guys.

    they could compress it a little more to increase the size available, which i think they will do when they can achieve extremely good good graphics and compression techniques improve. But 44gb sounds like it should either look very good or have tons of content (hope its both lol)

    I find it amazing how games like resistance require all this space, while Epic find away to fit Gears of War 2 onto a single dvd while still maintaining the same quality

    How do they do it?

    psn id: gingo... as the old saying goes quality over quantity, it doesn't really matter how much disk space as used just as long as what they have filled it with is AAA gaming

    thats three hd dvd's im satisfied. however killzone is romured to be around 45 gigs and Crysis will range from 40 to 70 gigs. possibly the first next gen game for playstation to use the new 5th layer blu ray disc.

    @11 I find it amazing people like you continue to post on psu who are closet xbot fanboys. R2 data to my knowledge will be uncompressed, Where as  Gears will be. Cliffy B only wishes he had the BD to work with.

    why do they have to fill up? They're doing fine...

    This just means that for now developers on a PS3 can get lazy and not really compress the data but use the BD liberally. 2 years down the line when your games are filling up Blu Rays and you gotta compress most of it to fit THEN u can brag about 44 GB.

    Funny that people take a very common statement (the size of the game) and twist it. The difference, if youre smart, is uncompressed vs. compressed data. You wouldnt like it if a bunch of guys were telling you about "size" and your lack of. Am I right?? Insomniac is probably really confident about their "size" & dont need to brag to those M$ people about it!!  -"I dont care who you are Thats Funny!!"-

    Wow, if they utilize the 50gb disc capacity as well as MGS4 did, this gaming is going to be so killer. Gears of War better watch its back, I really don't see how it can compete.

    @17

    Yeah, the original game was actually 16gb. It was originally going to take up 22, but they decided to compress some stuff to bring the size down and reduce burning time.

    @14.... everyone has the right to say their opinion, when he is saying that he is amazed by Epic , doesnt make him an xbox fan :). and there is nothing wrong with owning a 360 or commenting about( eventhough i only have a ps3 and dont have a ps3) so plz grow up my friend.

    @21

    Yeah you beat me to it :) I agree, because I find it kind of hard to believe this game is going to take up to 44gigs when In contrast Most MMO's are in the mid 20's and they are incredibly huge worlds. Even AOC takes 35gigs and that's including VERY high res textures and dx10 effects(Oh wait I better be careful, because #14 might try and label me a PC fanboy :) ). Either way it will be a great game, but just because someone wonders about Epics development secrets doesn't mean they're an xbot. Some people.

    @14

    I'm not an xbox fan boy as I don't own a xbox, I was just asking how some developers take full advantage of a blu-ray disc while other while others manage just fine with a single dvd while still producing a game equal in quality.  Still thanks for answering my question.
