Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today that PlayStation Network downloads reached almost eight million during the month of January 2008.
Exact figures totalled in at 7.9 million, up from 6.6 million the previous month. Overall, 52 million pieces of content have been downloaded by consumers over the PlayStation Store since its launch in November 2006.
The service currently has 2.9 million users registered in North America.

youpi, FIRST!!!!
it might be because they have more interresting demo's and features to downlowd compared to the rest of the world, here in europe we rarely get something good from our playstation store thursday's
Amurrrica is just a huge market thats all
Must have something to do with DMC4 demo ;)
I bet 1 or 2 million worldwide only for that demo
What's happening here? This is really happening like a Tsunami!!
I wish there was a way to tell if the 2.9 million users in NA were all "unique" users. You know, not ones that already have a PAL or JP account. This is great news though!!
psn id: gingo.... wow that is insane figures especially since theres not that much content so far
well it's only been a few months that the PSN has been open. It's doing very well I would say. Hopefully for all you out in Europe, they will start releasing more stuff for you too. I think it's only gonna get better as the time passes.
I download everything.
....everything.
just wait till 100 million ppl have the ps3 =]
Woah that's a lot higher than I thought it would be
Yikes, that's quite a bit. Wonder how much of that was free vs bought.
holy!
Thats good, hopefully we will reach 10 million in the coming 2 months. XD
I love PSN, xbox live has a long way to be as good as PSN, they can start off by making it FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I see it, I download it. I could care less if I will play it for 8 hours or never.
