PlayStation 3 sales in Japan have spiked following the release of Konami’s PES 2010, with the Sony platform nabbing the top spot for the week ended November 8 with 48,925 units sold.
Meanwhile, PSP sold through 33,784 units during the same period, placing it above Nintendo Wii, though the DS still managed to nudge ahead of its leading competitor with 37,421 units sold (though if you combine PSP and PSPgo sales, Sony's handheld comes out on top)
See below for full sales figures, courtesy of Media Create.

DSi - 37,421
PSP - 33,784
Wii - 31,810

these great sales are going to do good for cutting the lead between the 360 and ps3.

No they aren't.. they play the exact same games. in fact you can download the psp PSN games (for the psp go) for the PSP1000-3000.
Only thing different is that one is smaller, and no UMD + it has bluetooth. But the functionality, what they acvhieve (the games they play) are exactly the same and work on both platforms.

The only reason people see the go as different is because they wrote it off in their minds over the price. If it was $200, then all-of-a-sudden it wouldn't be such a separate entity.
By the way, I have a PSPgo and it's fantastic. So much in fact, that (believe it or not) it feels too weird to go back to a 3000. I also use the pause feature waaaaaay more than I ever thought I would. That thing is a life saver.
They need to put Silent Hill: Origins on the PSN for download, though.

The xbox 360 more than DOUBLED the sales of the PS2... PS2 is doomed in Japan!
I hope we see some serious PS3 sales in places other than Japan due to the lower price, though this won't translate smoothly into game sales... The 360 will beat out the PS3 in game sales in most games until the PS3's a good deal ahead in hardware.

Seems the PS3 is starting to kill everything. It's outsold the 360 in Europe (despite Microsofts 18month headstart), it's killing everything in Japan. It's inching out ahead in the homeland of the American console too.
Seems buying the American product only works so much, when the Xbox is as crappy as it is, and everything thats good is going to the PS3, then Patriotism starts to fade..
I'm already seeing the media coming back to Sony, as they knew if they carry on with the charade they will end up looking like fools (again), just like they did last time around, when they tried to bury the PS2..

Seriously I lol so hard at the PS3 fanboys here. I own both the 360 and the PS3. The reason why people still buy the 360 is because the online functionality is better than the PS3, the controller is better and you don't have to install the game in order to play it. Plain and simple. I bought the 360 first because the games were better. Once the PS3 got some games that were worthy (and once they won the format war) I jumped in. I will admit that the "old" PS3 is built like a tank and is better in terms of all the things it does compared to the 360, but the controller really sucks. That said, the console that deserves to win should win. And at the moment that is the PS3. Good for them.
