Kamiya looking to "exceed" God of War

Hideki Kamiya, creator of Capcom’s Devil May Cry franchise, has spoke of his lofty ambitions to "make a game that exceeds God of War's sequel."
Speaking with US publication Electronic Gaming Monthly, Kamiya commented, "Out of all those action titles, there's one game that I am paying really close attention to, that I think is a rival game, a good game, which is called God of War 3.”
"So there's like a wall for your imagination or ideas, and when you're actually creating something, you don't even see the wall. But with GOW, I felt like I saw beyond the wall," he said.
"I felt like they created the game in a very good way which managed to bring in the users, they gave you a huge impactful feeling right in the beginning, and just drew you into the game. So I'm very impressed that they made the game like that."
Kamiya, who is currently working on the action title Bayonetta, was decidedly less enthusiastic in regards to Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden series.
“I've never played Ninja Gaiden, and to be honest, I'm not that interested," he said, explaining, "the quality that gets you interested in something is that you feel something for them" and "Ninja Gaiden just didn't have that power."

Right, well what I think they do wrong is when they port the games on PC they have this horrible control sistem:(

that guy only made DMC1, Capcom is only milking and building on the success of DMC1 with the rest of the series. Kamiya was one of the best director if not the best at capcom, he made games like Okami, Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 2. He is the one that have to clean up all the mess Shinji Mikami made and turn everything into gold for capcom. Like the orignal RE2 was terrible and the Capcom boss actually stop the whole production and got Kamiya to redo everything. Same with RE4, DCM1 was originally RE4 started by Shinji Mikami, he also screwed it up very bad and got Kamiya to make it into DMC1.

The amount of times I've seen Kamiya blamed for DMC 2 and 4 is unbelievable.

I mean WTF Iam playing DMC4 at least tried on PC movement (W,A,S,D) all attack buttons and jump are u,j,i,k,l etc....
Thats as$ how stupid is that?
Same goes to RE4

i agree with the dude, im not that interested in ninja gaiden either, but there is no way they can try to surpass God of War, especially if GOW takes advantage of PS3 hardware (its supposed to also look like beowulf apparently)

Versus, while Ninja Gaiden is an awesome series, the God of War series is just as amazing. Itagaki bashes other games based on his preferences but when Kamiya says something about Ninja Gaiden, it's the end of the world?

wow, this guys want's to take down the king. What ever game he's making better be d*m good. And for this game to be as good as GOW i personally feel that it have to be and exclusive to the ps3 unlike this game this dude is making

God of War is an amazing game and I know they will never surpass it, especially since GOW is a PS exclusive. I believe the only reason why he said GOW was his main competition was because he knew he couldn't top it. I love Ninja Gaiden Sigma never played any of the others but I definitely prefer NG over Uncharted:DF.

theres NO WAY ur gonna exceed anything god of war related you capcom slime. nothing that is on 360 will ever exceed anything that is a ps3 exclusive. so you have 2 options... you can either keep dreaming, or make a PS3 ONLY game and STILL lose to god of war. stupid prick.

the only way this guy has a chance of surpassing or even making a game on par on what God Of War 3 is going to be then you need to make the game on a console that will give you the freedom to actually allow you to do things that are impossible on other consoles so in short MAKE A GAME EXCLUSIVE to the ps3 or use the ps3 AS THE LEAD CONSOLE

I don't know about you guys, but what made GOW great for me was the storyline and kratos is an anti-hero, everyone loves an anti-hero, if he can come up with a good enough story line and a good central character then perhaps he can make a game as good as GOW. But he has a huge mountain to climb.

I am happy to learn that GoW3 will be a game to follow up. GoW is the best action game of all time for me. Ninja Gaiden is owesome but lacks some stuffs like a good story line which is a key factor in the GoW sequels. Nevertheless I will like to see more weapons in GoW3 and I strongly believe the team behind the development of the game will produce another game to remember.

LOL! With all due respect to the man for dmc, one of my favorite games his goal is a little too ambitious. GOW combines a good story, visceral combat, and ambience for one dope game. You also have to look at the fact that GOW 3 is going to be a 1st party ps3 exclusive. Dig Dmc and Okami but once again, lol.

Well,for starters he could let that god foresaken pre historic Framework engine Capcom has used for every single game this gen be laid to rest,and actually design something from the ground up to make sure that it is upto nex gen standards and not last gen SUB STANDARDS.
