Killzone 2 pushed back beyond 2008

Posted on May 6th, 2008 at 12:03 EDT

We all know how much you guys love delays, so it pains us to announce that Killzone 2 has officially been delayed until February of 2009. During all of the speeches being given today at PlayStation's event day in London, it was announced that Killzone 2 will be pushed back. There hasn't been much information provided as to why however they have shown new footage of the game and there will be a playable version made available to media at the event.

With Killzone 2 being considered a flagship title for the PlayStation 3, this is obviously a decent-sized blow to their 2008 lineup. However, fans should not fret as they still have a handful of titles to look forward to such as LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2 and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift just to name a few. If any more information is supplied about Killzone 2 from today's event, we'll keep you posted.

psn id: gingo.... if i remember correctly no actual date was set for this and they said they hoped it would be released at the end of this year, so i wouldn't really call it a delay - who honestly expected this to come out this year anyway

still, with home being delay until the end of time and killzone out of the 2008 picture that leaves me with only MGS4 to play all year long.  and it comes out in june.  I'm so glad I bought my "media  center station 3" on launch.  thanks for all the support to your loyal customers sony.  :(

man this just sucks i feel that this game has become what haze was a while back because it has lost its hype and this is bad as thet have pulled the game out of the so called brick wall lineup for the ps3.

Even though it sux, itll help the sales of those other games coming out and ultimatley killzone 2 since it wont be coming out at the same time those other games are. And dont forget socom confrontation. Still gonna be a killer year.

WOW...The 2008 Line-up for Sony is still fairly strong, but this still is a SERIOUS blow to the company. I tell you one thing guys....with 4 years of development KZ2 had better be the Halo,Crisis and Gears of War Killer. lol...or at least get a 10.0 in all reviews.

THIS TOTALLY SUCKS, BIG TIME. I was really looking forward to this one, I've already crossed Haze off my list.

I hope they still have the Beta this summer.

It's sad to see this game drop from the great 2008 line-up, but at least Sony has a killer app to kick off 2009, with Prototype, God of War III, Silent Hill: Homecoming, Infamous, and  WarDevil.  All of those are set for release in the first 4 months of 2009.

Well, bad news is better than no news. I am kinda dissapointed that it got delayed til Febuary. But Guerilla Games arren't the best Developers, they need time. Hopefully Sony are helping them enough.

@ Emo-Mercenary:  Sony wouldn't drop one of their flagship titles.  I'm sure they are working on it but for $60 million, they'll want the best game possible.

I'm a little disappointed that Killzone 2 didn't make a 2008 release because I was expecting it to come out this Fall, however, delaying Killzone 2 to February 2009 was the smartest thing to do in terms of business. I wasn't really surprised to hear that Killzone 2 got pushed because there was a lot of rumors going around  about Killzone 2 coming in 2009 after that X-Play video said that Killzone 2 could possibly slip into 2009, so I was somewhat prepared for the news.

Having Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 released within the same time frame of each other wouldn't be too good for either game and it could have possibly affected sales, but I would have bought both games regardless and anybody that bought Call of Duty 4 on the PS3 or anybody that like FPS had BETTER buy both Killzone 2 and Resistance 2. And it's not like Killzone 2 is coming out next summer 2009 or something, so it's not that bad, it's coming out Februrary 2009 and that's an early release for 2009 and that makes me happy.

But, Sony is pretty smart though, because having Killzone 2 released in Februrary of 2009 would give the PS3 momentuem AFTER the holiday season cools down. The Xbox 360 right now doesn't have a Big game title scheduled for early 2009 and the PS3 will have the spotlight and all eyes will be on Killzone.

But, I'm looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Motorstorm 2, and I'm a still kinda iffy about Haze, but I might get it, but the PS3 still has a good lineup of exclusives for the year.

For everyone that's dissappointed about the news, just look at it this way, in 2009 there's Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Wardevil, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy XIII and more. It's not so bad because 2009 looks just as promising as 2008.

Oh well, there's already alot of games to look forward to by the end of this year. At least we have something 'big' to look forward to next February, and as far as I remember we only really had DMC4 to look forward to last Feb!

I too have been anticipating this title since I saw the trailer prior to the PS3 launch!

I fu*king hate you all who are telling us that all this games will come this year and then you delay them all !!!!! and I'm sure Resistance2 will be delayed and what will we then play this year!!??? fu*k this year !!

Does anybody really believe this will live up to the hype? Remember the hype around killzone 1, then that dissapointed. I think Resistance 2 will be PS3's flagship FPS (60 players). Who bets it'll be even later in Europe.

Looks like now's the time to move to the green side, where I can wait for...erm, what have they got coming out.

Am I the only one who sees this as a good thing? Killzone 2 is a major title for the PS3 that has been in the works for years. When it is released, they are going to want the spotlight all to themselves. As scheduled, Killzone 2 would have been released too close to Resistance 2 (which may turn out to be the better game). I think it's a good move since KZ2 is more hype than substance anyways. Resistance, MGS4, and Socom are all much more proven anyway.

@ AclayPS3: I agree with the momentum for Sony.  Microsoft has Gears 2, Fable 2, and a Halo prequel for this holiday.  That's it.  Sony has games coming out before, during, and after, which I assume will have a price cut by the end of the year as well.

I didn't even read your responses because I know what they say.  Let me add to it by saying "Saw that coming!"  Listen, I prefer the PS3 because I really like Sony's first party developing, so I'm not getting rid of mine.  But this now looks like the norm for this hard-to-program-for console and I like to play games...so I'm replacing my Xbox 360, period.  I don't know about you guys, but I'm finally tired of this.  If I missed my deadlines (or windows) like this, I'd get fired from my job.

Maybe Sony should stop making games for the PS3 altogether and just sell Blu-Ray movies on it.

Sony really needs to start pressuring these devs. But I can't just blame the dev's because even Sony's first party apps are constantly delayed!! What about in game XMB?? We realistically won't see home until the middle/end of 2009 would be my guess. By the time all these promises come true, Xbox 720 will be released. This truly worries me because my source says that the 720(or whatever it will actually be called) is slated for release early 2010. So much for Sony's ten year plan if they keep this up. I bought one for the first party games, but so far it's main use is a blu-ray player. How long do we have to wait to start actually playing the games we bought the console for??

I hate to say this but sony is playing with his fan base. Why show a game in 2006 if they are not going to pull it out. This is crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! 2008 an still no home, no xmb, and now no killzone.......This is going to continue????

@ ogtripple:  Sorry to burst your bubble, but the GT5 devs said they would be lucky to get GT5 out by the end of 2009.  With an almost guaranteed delay, don't get your hopes up until 2010.
