Killzone 2 shifts 20,000 copies on Japanese launch day

Killzone 2 just debuted in Japan and sold very well considering its genre. PS3center reports that the game sold a very respectable 20,000 units on launch day, with some retailers scrambling to find more copies.

It’s not a secret that the Japanese have little love for first person shooters. After the westernization of Metal Gear Solid 4, however, the region seems a bit more willing to give the genre a chance, as evidenced by these solid sales numbers.

Killzone 2 seems to be resonating with Japan’s gaming press as well. Famitsu awarded the game 32/40 points (8/8/8/8), while Dengeki PlayStation’s four scores were 90/85/80/80.

The best opening week in Japan for a first person shooter this generation was the debut of Halo 3, which sold just over 60,000 units its first week. Will Sev topple Master Chief? We’ll let you know when the week concludes.
