According to Ryan Payton of Kojima Productions, the new DualShock 3 controller will be more advanced than its predecessor.
During an episode of Kojima's podcast, Payton claims that the new controller has a better rumble function, adding: "I mean, it feels better." The biggest and most notable feature is the positional rumble technology, allowing for a more realistic feeling.
Payton also mentioned that the developers were given the tools for the DualShock 3 only weeks before TGS. It will be interesting to see what developers can do with the rumble after they have had more time with the controllers. Make sure to check back for more details.

@ XenoSilvano: its just called the dualshock 3. dont worry tho cause it still has the tilt sense built into it.
im curious of what the price is gonna be for one of these. i bought 3 extra controllers (making a total of 4) right on launch day.. it sucks that i gotta put more money towards controllers now but i think its worth it to get atleast one or two ds3's.

Yuk-YukIt has been reported that the battery is around 15hrs which is 5 more than the 360 controllers with the rumble. Obviously it all depends if you have the rumble feature turned on or off and how much it rumbles during gameplay. I would like to be able to press the PS button on the DS3 to switch on and off the rumble from there instead of the in-game options, which you can also switch it on and off from.My guess is that the DS3 won't cost any more than what the sixaxis does now. My guess is that they just slowly fade out the sixaxis by lowering its price and having DS3 at $50. I think it will be good as for some who will use the DS3 for their own single player or online gaming can buy a cheap sixaxis for multiplayer with mates. They won't mind if it doesn't have rumble in a game of Pro soccer.I have read that the rumble does indeed come from different parts of the controller. An example was used that if you was being shot from behind in a FPS, you would get a rumble ain a position on the pad suggesting where you was being shot from. So if your shot from the top left, it would rumble at the top left of the pad. No more arrows on the screen or red flashes from where your being shot from. At last the rumble is give you real feedback thats part of the gameplay. Output is better than input when considering games. you hear wii-mote? -

Kinda dissapointed as this should have been out at launch time. Its a neccesity unlike the Wireless steering wheel on XBOX360. Who needs that thing? Not me. BUt this is gold! Lucky for me I never got another controller on top of the one that came with the system. BUt still, the poor saps that baught extra 6AXIS controllers now have to go out and spend more money.

All you guy's that are complaining make me laugh... First it was WE WANT RUMBLE BACK.... WHY DID THEY TAKE IT OUT WAH WAH WAH>> now it is OMG THEY PUT RUMBLE BACK THAT SUCK's CAUSE NOW I HAVE TO SPEND MORE MONEY.... WAH WAH WAH.... What did all of you think was going to happen??? Sony is not going to give free replacement's they are company trying to make money. You all should be happy that atleast they listen to the fan base and put it back in the first place. Personally I could give a rats butt that they brought it back. I see it as last gen tech but like I said before everyone whinning that it wasn't there now have it back so just be happy and quit complaning. You all had they option not to adopt the system early but you opted to get it so take that how you will.

Can't believe they would release this year in another region, while we seriously have to wait for a rumbling controller. While I am not dieing for the rumble, as I have gotten used to it, I will be picking one up. And they better have a patch for Resistance and Motorstorm to take use of the DS3.

It's going to be nice to have. I seriously doubt it will have a price point above $40-$50. Sony can't have it priced higher than the competition. Hopefully the non-rumble controllers drop to $20, but it'll probably be at least $30 for awhile.

i'm actually interested in the DS3. i couldn't care less about the rumble before but since they claim that it, "feels better" makes me want to check it out for myself.

"The biggest and most notable feature is the positional rumble technology, allowing for a more realistic feeling."
If that wasn't a TouchSense confirmation, I don't know what it. Only time can tell now, but if it does incorporate TS rather than crappy last-gen dual shocks, I'll buy 4.

no big deal. I can buy 2 and then have 4 total (two DS3, two Sixaxis). To tell you the truth I probably won't get them. I don't miss rumble much and I don't need all those controllers. I don't even need the 2nd one, there's 2 PS3's in here!! (3 controllers total)
