Konami responds to broken MGS4 street date

Despite the measurements taken by any publisher, high-profile games always seem to have one store, if not more, break their legal street date. This had been the case with many games before Metal Gear Solid 4 and it will be the case with many following it. This week, a couple of Wal-Marts were reported to have sold the Metal Gear Solid 80GB PS3 bundles up to a week before the scheduled release of the title on June 12.

Earlier in the week, Pete Stone, Konami's UK General Manager had commented on their plans for the release of MGS4.

"We pride ourselves on working closely with retailers and have a continuation of the signed agreement system we used so successfully before,” said Stone. “All major retailers are supplying written agreements that they will honor the street date no matter what, making it a level playing field across the board. We all want the game to be a huge success, and for everyone to benefit from this release."

Despite working closely with retailers, this ultimate goal wasn't achieved and games were leaked. Due to this, Konami issued the below statement today in regards to the issue.

“Unfortunately, these things happen. As much as we like see that no one breaks streets dates, no one can monitor every single moment that a title gets packed up for shipment and when its on its way to the stores.The store could be at fault as well, for letting someone get a copy before the street date.”

    i dont care as i wont play much until the following  thursday after releease when i finish exams civ rev will good as well and later this month i mihgt get bad company as the demo was impressive

    that sucks that walmart broke the street date. and UK i am able to wait 2 days till wenesday and i am going on the release at gamestop on wenesday night!!!

    mannnnn i dont know to preorder or just go pick it up lol heres the thing 10pm mail arrives but hten have to wait for play to deliver or go to game at 9am as soon as it open then GO HOME AND PLAY THE CRAP OUT OF THE GAME!!!!

    Remember that GTA4 is a PC, 360, and a PS3 game, so it is highly unlikely that MGS4 will outsell GTA4 across all platforms.  I dont doubt that MGS4 will outsell the PS3 version of GTA4 in a heartbeat, but not GTA4 as a whole.

    LOL I wouldn't mind getting it today. But yes people are willing to sell it early just to make sure they are sold out sooner then their competitors.

    meh thats cool i guess for the people that live there. i was formerly employed by rogers video here in canada and i got movies and games like a week or two before the release date for the most part.

    yeah thats true MGS4 wont beat GTA4 as a whole but... i think it will beat all versions of GTA4(thats the PC, 360 and PS3 versions) one on one..

    Unless there are heavy fines applied to the stores that break contract, I can see this happening over and over. It's probably employees getting paid under-the-table selling to customers who can't wait.

    I was in my local Walmart and saw two of the MGS4 bundle available. If I needed a system I would've surely got it.

    @ladelb they should also boycott the stores, like I will not give any more games to you until you pay the fine and can assure us that this will not be repeated.
