Leipzig: Sony announces 160GB PS3 for PAL regions

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced that it will be releasing a 160GB PlayStation 3 unit across PAL territories later this year.
Speaking at the platform holder’s press conference at the Leipzig Games Convention this week, SCEE boss David Reeves confirmed that the new SKU would retail for approximately EUR 449 – exactly EUR 50 more than its 80GB counterpart.
Reeves stated that the new model will feature the same specs as the 80GB unit minus the expanded hard drive capabilities, and would go on sale from October 31.

For those newbies out there who doesn't know the difference between 2,5" SATA and 3,5" IDE this is great news.
And yes, 160 Gb is needed. At least when you use your PS3 for music and movies. I have already filled up my 160 disk and I am waiting for a TB 2,5" SATA to arrive.
My main concern is how do you backup 160 Gb from the PS3? As I see it you are only available to use an external FAT32 disk to backup to, and the stupid, old and lame FAT system is not capable of partitions that big. Why can't Sony add support for ext3 or some other modern filesystem?
