OK, better put down any drinks, fragile objects or pets you may be holding before you read this. Media Molecule's gargantuan social platformer LittleBigPlanet has made its debut at 4th place in UK software charts for the week ending November 8.
This rather lacklustre opening may owe as much to the present glut of triple-A releases as it does religious controversy, delayed releases and copyright issues. SackBoy was pipped to the post by fellow heavyweights Fallout 3, FIFA 09 and Gears of War 2.
It's not been a very good week for PlayStation 3 exclusives: poor old MotorStorm: Pacific Rift crept in with a whimper at number 29. Meanwhile, Nintendo's rickety roster of Wii hits continued to trump stripling titles, with Wii Fit, Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii throwing sand in the faces of Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Far Cry 2 and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.

Pacific rift is superb as to is LBP, if the british public would rather buy toot like Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS) then let'em. Really in the top four you can only compare LBP with Gears2 as all the others are multi platform, so it aint done too bad really

This is all by the by ... LBP is going to be a christmas title and therefore will see a pickup in sales for the holiday season and weeks leading up to it.
Fallout 3 sounds amazing so no suprise there and Gears2 was always going to be number one, footie fans will always take FIFA over a family game. I think PSU should show the number of copies for each game not just their sales ranking. This may shed more light on the matter

how many people buy games in the first week that they dont know much about? honestly. LBP was a weird looking title for anybody to begin with. when people start reading and hear about this game itll sky-rocket. esecially come christmas. i can only imagine how many PS3/LBP bundles will be sold for this christmas.

Thats actually quite impressive seeing as the game was only out for 3 days. Fifa 09 was out for the entire month. Anyway the Xbots should learn to read reviews. Gears of War 2 isnt much of a step-up from the original. A lot of my friends were very disappointed with the game.

the thing thats needs to be considered is 2of the 3 are multi platform games so this will be combined sales over all platforms while LBP is PS3 only and Gears is X-Box only. I would of been surprised to see LBP outsell Gears on the launch week as Gears has such a massive following.
BTW I'm not an x-box gamer in the slightest just looking at this from a realistic view

even more reason to cut the price of the ps3,imagine if the install base matched the 360,devs will just look at this and think such a good game cant even make it number 1 when its an exclusive.

Motorstorm is more of a christmas present and Gears 2 is out now? I wonder why no one is talking about it at school?...

Shame on UK, they should support their own company: Media Molecule

I'd rather know how it did here in the US and Japan. The UK is still an uphill battle, and besides, GeoW only did so well because the install base for the 36* is still higher.
The important thing is which game has the staying power to keep people interested after the main campaign is over. Infinite creativity versus a bunch of online death matches... I know which makes more sense... do you?
