LittleBigPlanet potentially Sony's biggest title

Posted on February 25th, 2008 at 13:57 EDT

Sony believes that LittleBigPlanet could be their biggest title of 2008 even with the likes of Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, and Killzone 2 to compete with. At a recently held event in London, Sony’s Senior Product Manager, Nick Robinson made it pretty clear on what to expect out of this little title with big potential.

"LittleBigPlanet is potentially our biggest Blu-ray release of 2008. We definitely see it as a triple-A Blu-ray release and will be a full price product." Robinson followed this up with a tidbit of information in regards to an open beta after officially confirming it would arrive on the PlayStation Network before release.

"It's not like you will get to play the full game early," he added. "It will focus on the create and share side of things. The potential for people to break the game is amazing."

Robinson further went on to say that you probably can’t expect an actual demo of the game because they feel that one level truly wouldn’t do the title justice. They feel people would just complete that level and that would be it. There isn’t much else possible in the form of a demo.

We’ll keep you guys up to date when the public beta date is made official.

Full price product my ***.  If LBP goes to PSN at $40 and on Blu-ray for $60, I call bull****.  I really want this game but if it's going to go for $60, it's probably going to go way down on my list for fall games.

---

Should anyone pay $60 when you could get Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Prototype, and Fallout 3 all for the same price?  All 4 of those games I just listed are coming out within weeks of LBP, so unless Media Molecule wants it lost in the fray, they better drop the price. $50 would be fine for me.

@ infernoReaper

What makes LBP any differnet from any of those games that would make you thinik it sould be cheaper (besides all the gore)?

Its a full fledged game just like Killzone2, Resistance2, Metal Gear Solid4. So just because it does not have guns or blood it not worthy of full price?!?

I totally agree with post #7.....this game just isn't now where on my radar. I am glad that alot of people seems to be interested in it, but I can't seem to understand why on God's green earth would they be. I hope it lives up to whatever it promises to the folks that dig with sort of stuff.....(I don't know what they like to do)

Well I am very excited about this title.  I am a creator at heart,  with a good imagination.  I think that both those things are probably a must for a title of this nature.  As far as price goes,  it's gonna be new.  New price is always the highest. But I'm sure you all already knew that right? hahaha

ha ha "what's so great about LBP?" duh idk "cauz there ain't no hoes and violents?" GTA has been old since vice city n e way hu wants to experience a totally knew game idea? guess i'll go bug my mom for gtaIV lol. All tho I could just step out of the sand box, shake the sand from my Huggies and go support originality, buy me up a copy of LBP and pass the binkie to EFFORTLESS7. BTW EFF go thank your Mummy for pre ordering Greymatter Theft Activities IV waaaa waaaa $60 waa. Only Greymatter Trap Ape IV is worth that much, I hope that everyone could hear me over the awesomeness that is GTAIV. Isn't It?

I'm sorry but, I really don't know why Sony thinks that LittleBigPlanet is a AAA game title and is possibly the biggest game of 2008 for the PS3 because it's not.

I have to agree with a few other people because this game was nowhere on my radar for 2008. I enjoy very diverse game genres, but this type of game just isn't my tastes. I hope that Sony isn't making a big mistake by creating this game and it turns out to be a flop. But LittleBigPlanet will appeal to more non-hardcore gamers though and it could be good for the PS3 because every console needs a few casual games.

By the looks of LittleBigPlanet, it seems as if there isn't going to be an Single Player/Story Mode to the game and if a game doesn't have a single player mode then I could care less about the game.

All I can say is Good Luck with this one Sony. I personally think that Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and Haze are going to overshadow this game so much that people wont even see it on the store shelves.

I don't see how this can be Sony's biggest title. Killzone 2 (hopefully) will be sooooooooo much bigger. Even RFOM2. Oh well, anything to hype the game. I probably won't be getting this since it comes out at a busy time for games.

So then He's saying there's going to be a cheaper downloadable version that wont have all the bells and whistles? A purchaseable demo seems an accurate discription of this but the ammount of stuff they'd have to put in to make it worth paying for would make it pretty huge.

They refer to it as a AAA game because of the interest it generates. Easy to create worlds with smart simple yet dynamic phsyics that the player can control makes the game very easily something that could gain lots of people's attention. it has the ability to draw people in with it's style too has a winning personality. With all the customization the game promises in an era where people are demanding that kind of interaction with their gaming, Yes, It could very well be a AAA game. YOU may not buy it but you allone do not have the last word as to whether or not it really IS a AAA game. Also next to 2 M rated frist person shooters this is probably the biggest all ages title they have coming out this year. all ages means more people can buy it, that's always been Nintendo's view.

There was an article about this Demo ordeal. One of the guys said that because the demo of Blast Factor only had like one level or so, people finished it and though "thats all this game has to offer" and never bought the game. He went on saying that 600,000 people played the demo, while he couldn't transfer that over to actual game sells. Naturally a lot of people are going to try free demo games...and if its not any good people won't buy it. This also has a lot to deal with the fact most people don't have credit cards...where are the damn PSN cards already?

there is no way this is going to be the biggest title for the ps3 in 2008, at least thats what i think.. but still the game looks to be fun, have to play it to know for sure... most people dont have credit cards? seriosly? didnt know that...

I think that this looks like a fantastic game, and i for one will be buying it when it comes out, will this be the first PS3 game with full interaction and user customability? its four players isn't it? .................. four players in a level each helping each other to get from one point to another, in affect each creating decisions to tackle puzzles, and with it creating different outcomes to decisions the players have made! what game at the moment can offer this kind of interaction on the PS3?

@ 37 right on man! I will buy it too so see you on LBP. a lot of people are not creative and patient enough to play any game out side of fps. I guess that there is too much thinking involved in this title for most gamers. Oh yeah "please, Sony, don't make this game, your're going to ruin your future because the future is EFFinPS" BTW It's called a Sony PS3 not a Sony FPS3
