Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has stated he believes the forthcoming LittleBigPlanet could play a key factor in stimulating sales of Sony’s PlayStation 3 console when the game is released early next year.
Pachter believes that the game should prove a successful foray in attracting a wider, family-orientated audience – something that Sony has yet to achieve with its latest home console.
"After seeing LittleBigPlanet at TGS, I believe it could be a console mover," said Pachter, during an interview with Gamesindustry.biz.
"The game is really innovative, and I think it adds a family element that is so far missing from both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. If they can accompany that game's launch with a price cut (or a lower priced SKU), I think we'll see a spike in sales.”
Elsewhere, Pachter speculated that Sony will likely miss its intended shipment forecast of 11 million units by March 2008, unless the company chooses to lower the price of PS3 in its current financial year: "If Sony doesn't cut price at all during its fiscal year, they will probably miss their 11 million shipment target," he said. "However, a price cut early in 2008 should spark sales, and their line-up of LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 should help move consoles”, he said.
“If they don't cut price, they'll probably sell through around 7 million for the fiscal year, and will probably ship no more than 8 - 9 million," observed Pachter.
LittleBigPlanet is currently slated for release in North America in early 2008.

I'm really looking forward to LittleBigPlanet. It looks very exciting.
Ahh, they will reduce price, and they will sell 11 million (sell, not ship)
One of my friends recently bought a 360 (even though i said it was a waste of money) and a week or 2 after, it turned partially red :D Well, now he's decided to get his money back, and then get himself a PS3 lol
Did it really take Patchers' stupid self to realize this. How much does this idiot get paid. I would love to know.
If that 40 GB is true they bundle it with Little Big Planet and they should be flying off the shelves like hot cakes!!! LOL
psn id: gingo.... i tihnk Pachter is good but that was a really obviously statement lol
Um....ok???? I think, naturally, any quality game that is gathering as much hype as LBP, or even MGS4 or any other exclusive for that matter, should definitely have an impact said consoles sales. I think it is only natural....but, maybe there are people who get so hyped for a PS3 game, they just go out and buy a Wii....
i dont agree with the not hitting ll million, i think they will hit 11 million considering haze, assassins creed, cod 4 and uncharted are coming out, o cant forget ut3. Those game will help move systems in 2007, and mgs4, killzone 2, LBP and gran turismo will be thje big games that move massive amounts of systems in early 2008.
This game is gonna be sick!!
Don't forget about Final Fantasy XIII, this will sell systems too...
I like LBP but I think Patcher just makes his living telling people what he thinks they want to hear.
13th post!!
He's damn right LittleBigPlanet will be a PS3 mover! I am looking foward to LBP the most due to its innovative (and quite cute) gameplay. Pachter seems to speak a little more sense than most other analysts, albeit seeming to side with Sony and the PS3.
LittleBigPlanet already has the appeal it just needs to be marketed and people need to know what it is about. This game is the type of game that could sale any console it was on. IMO LBP and Killzone 2 Is Sonys trump card for '08.
@Lp47PS3 - You do realise that 2 of the so called "System Sellers" you listed are on the 360 as well? Assassins Creed and C.O.D. 4 are both Multi-platform so they won't do a lot of system selling, it's the exlusives that shift systems once the initial rush is over so to be blatantly honest I think it'll be mid to late 2008 before we see the PS3 start hitting it's stride...when Killzone 2, MGS 4, FFXIII hit thats when we'll see a massed increase in sales. I know a good few people that are waiting specifically for these games. Personally i can't wait for Eye of Judgment...that looks great and Haze is the business.
With regards to LBP, it looks amazing and I'll probably get it but i don't think it'll shift that many systems. It's aimed at communal gaming and there aren't a lot of people willing to drop £450 on something that they'll play now and again...guess we'll see how things go...
Well, yeah sales are gonna go up, because the game is sick and that is why gamers buy consoles, not to watch Blu Ray movies on, but to play video games. The console needs some exclusive titles, like MGS4,Little Big Planet, and God of War 3. Now those games and many more like it will sale the PS3.

This is what i call innovation in gaming.
All these great games...all these news of delays. There are also some translation delays (for games like FFXIII), and then some...
