LocoRoco 2 confirmed

LocoRoco was a huge hit when it was released for PSP back in 2006. It didn’t have a complex storyline or stunning graphics; it was simple, cute, accessible and fun.

Now the delightful little Locos are heading to PSP once again in LocoRoco 2. And they’ll be up against the Moja Troop too:

"The Moja Troop are back with some new bosses, but this time they’ve also learned some songs," director Tsutomu Kouno told Famitsu. "They’ve been practising as hard as they can, and they’ve learned how to use music to sap the energy out of everyone. Now nobody feels like doing anything, so the LocoRoco have to go around the world and pep everyone back up again."

Kouno highlighted a number of new features for the sequel, but reassured fans that the charm and simplicity will remain.

"We’ve tried our best not to change the core gameplay too much. We’re being careful to keep it from getting too complex. In the first game you could only swim on the surface of bodies of water, but here you can dive underwater. You could catch yourself on a rope by biting on it earlier, but you can bite down on more stuff this time — you can even pull things out entirely with your teeth. We’d like to have more places where the player and the LocoRoco work together to do things, giving you a taste of what it’s like playing with them."

SCE says LocoRoco 2 is about 75% complete but a release date has yet to be announced. Expect more information at E3 next week, and be sure to stick with us during the trade show as we keep you up to date on all things PlayStation.
