Lovefilm accounts unaffected by PlayStation Network downtime

Movie-rental service Lovefilm has spoken of its frustration with the downtime caused by the hacking of the PlayStation Network last week.

The network has now been offline since April, 21 where hackers bypassed security and got hold of personal details of over 70 million users. As a result, users also haven’t been able to access their Lovefilm accounts.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Lovefilm reassured its customers that accounts associated with its rental service will not be affected.

"You may have heard the news that Sony’s PlayStation Network has been closed for some days after it came under attack. This, in turn, has made our streaming service on the PS3 temporarily unavailable," Eurogamer were informed.

"Please don’t worry about the personal details on your Lovefilm account – it is not possible to access these through the PlayStation Network (we hold this information, not Sony), so it all remains completely safe and secure.”

Lovefilm also apologized for “hassle” to consumers and said “we’re frustrated as you are.” With any luck all services should be resumed by next week, but Sony is keen to stress that the PlayStation Network won’t come back online until it is confident it is secure.

This hasn’t affected accessing Lovefilm from your PC.
