According to an interview that took place during CES 2008, the confirmed news has been reported that Metal Gear Solid Online will come packaged with MGS4. There had been a ton of speculation revolving around the online package and if it was going to be a separate purchase or not. However, now we know for sure that MGS: Online will be included as a starter pack only.
In an interview done with UK Gamespot, Konami’s director put the rumors finally to rest.
They have yet to release any information such as game modes or what maps will be included within the online starter pack. They have only given us the facts that elements for an online component within Metal Gear Solid 4 will be available for you to get enjoyment out of the online experience.
Considering it’s just a starter pack like famed battle cards that have been a craze over the last decade; we can easily expect there to be add-ons in some form or fashion. Now whether these add-ons come in the appearance of downloadable content or through literal expansion packs like you’d find with an MMORPG is still unknown.
Due to statements made by the Konami executive, we feel that the downloadable content is more of a realistic expectation considering the mention of providing content through-out the year. That would hardly be financially efficient to release expansion packs to retail stores everywhere, when a user could simply download from their home PlayStation 3.
If anything else breaks on this story, we’ll be sure to let you know.

There'll be even more Q's when the game/s come out! I suspect tournaments will be held for MGO, and I anticipate DLC of previous MGS characters (in old skool form, all pixelated, maybe?) as well. Even more so, a cross-over would be very interesting to such see....such as characters from other Konami games!!!
Wouldn't that be cool?! Imagine characters from Silent Hill, Castlevania, etc.

HAHA! Dave's a noobie at MGS....you're gonna love it!
I feel I'm much better at stealth 3rdPS than any FPS...so I'd better be good at MGO!

@DaveW .... You don't have a PS3 yet O_o Your missing out dude. Its kool that you bought the previous versions but if you wanted to catch the whole plot Kojima got your back. MGS4 will contain optional cut scenes from previous games to keep you from scratching your head wondering who, what, when, where, why.

Well, i owned a PS3 and 360, however, I sacrified the PS3 off for a laptop for College. This left me with my 360, PS2, Wii, and PSP. The 360 was needed because I was doing work with Cnet and an EA affiliate that involved the 360 as the main unit of play. So I'm going to be picking up another PS3 shortly.

Something just occured to me, what if they did a MGS MMO, where, you pick a faction from the beginning, build your soldier from head to toe, and you fight these proxy battles as defined in MGS4...has this been done? I dunno, sounds like a killer idea though, Kojima-san, jot this down!

@MatrixSixaxis: At least Dave's played the game. I haven't even tried a demo of it. No, not because I thought it was stupid. Because at the time different games appealed to me.
I now regret that decision and I plan to pick up copies of the first games before MGS4 comes out. By the way, which MGS2 sucked?

@InfernoReaper I think the game you're thinking of that sucked was "Substance". I've never played it and was actually a little disappointed in the length of MGS2: Sons of Liberty. I've yet to play Snake Eater. I've been borrowing it from a friend for almost a year and haven't touched the game yet.
