Konami Digital Entertainment announced today that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has sold one million copies across Europe since its release on June 12.
The critically acclaimed stealth-action proved to be an instant hit with consumers upon its release, debuting at number one on the UK All Format Charts and becoming the fastest selling PlayStation 3 title in the region to date.
The publisher also confirmed that it shipped a further 25,000 copies of the Limited Edition SKU to retailers across Europe, noting they “were snapped up almost immediately.”
Martin Schneider, Sales and Marketing Director for Konami Digital Entertainment Germany, commented: “The Metal Gear Solid series has again proved its huge potential, and we are delighted with the fantastic response the game has enjoyed at retail.”
“MGS4 is nothing short of a masterpiece – an epic conclusion to the Solid Snake story. We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback we have received from retail and consumers alike, and will keep satisfying their needs with updates to the game’s ‘Extra’ option, and via new content to Metal Gear Online.”

Well, so much for the "It needs to sell one million copies to be successfull" thing. I think that was debunked anyway. But even if it was true, they did it in one territory.

not alot of people buy and play the great games, only the real gamers do, stupid people see GTAiv the most overrated game EVER which was cr4p and go crazy...MGS4 by far should outsell anyother game when it comes to real gaming quality.

So it sold 1/2 million on the first day out in Japan, and a solid 1 mil in Europe on its first week. Anybody know what the world wide week's sales is? It's gotta be about 3 million by now.

Easily Game Of The Year. I'm a hardcore gamer and i never played such an amazing game before in my life. I've been gaming for a pretty long time and i must say i thought things were getting hopeless on all 4 platforms . Then Kojima Productions hits us with Metal Gear Solid 4. Absolutely Amazing.

Yo guys where did this GTAIV bashing come from? GTAiV was a great game and so is MGS4. thats good to hear that europe thought as highly of the game as the rest of the world. The only real competition MGS4 has for game of the year is Gears of War 2 but MGS4 should have it by a long shot still
