Madden 2009 -- The difference

We're aware that a couple of weeks ago we ran a feature displaying the visual differences between Madden NFL 2008 and Madden NFL 2009, problem is, the still shots didn't do the comparison any true justice. EA has recently released a video displaying the differences between the two installments to show fans of the series exactly how much has been changed within the game's design.

We've included the video below for you to check out and your impressions are always appreciated in the comment section below.

    The differences I've noticed:

    1. The atmospheric lighting is significantly better, and 4:15 looks closer to sunset... that's good or bad... considering the sun sets between 8 to 9 in America. Visually it's better.

    2. The grass looks better, in that it looks like grass, meaning it has some semblance of rendering individual blades of grass. There's self-shadowing, it seems, and highlighting. As opposed to the '08 version, which just seems like the floor painted green.

    3. The weather effects are obvious.

4, 5, 6. The player renders. There's hardly any differences when you look at the uniforms, but the helmets do look more dynamic. You look at the reflection of the light, and it haloes on the 09 version, as it should. The characters themselves don't look as stiff, and look to have some real meat and muscle. In other words, they look more organic, and less robotic than the previous version... what I don't understand is why use footage on a static player, instead of a moving one. (I think the character models may not look that much better in motion, and EA is avoiding less-than-flattering comparisons.)

Thanks EA for proving that Madden is yet again weak. Nice visuals such as grass, wow. I can really tell a difference from 50 yards away. Humidity and some polen in the air brings in a nice touch. Snowstorm looks sweet, I bet the fans are still in tee shirts and shorts. EA is really pressing hard on trying to persuade you to purchase this product with visual comparisons. It's a nice touch, but it's all about the gameplay.

yeah I agree ryan, they need a high def version so we can get a much better look--it's a little too difficult with this tiny version.

not much of a big difference obivously, there only showing off graphics, not gameplay, its the same game play every year!

That's nice and all, but from an uninformed consumer viewpoint, it looks like it is only going to be improved on the 360. Else they would have promo'd more than one platform box in the beginning & end of the video. Kind of a shame seeing as how 60% of their software sales came from Sonys machines. Still won't be buying anything from EA.

These videos look fine and dandy and all but is this going to be for the ps3 or xbox 360? I am still somewhat skeptical on how the ps3 version is going to be vs. the xbox. I know they are saying 60 fps but I guess time will tell when it is released in August.

Awesome video of birds-eye stadium views and stationary models.  EA really knows how to impress...
