Manchester Cathedral objects to Resistance BAFTA

Earlier in the year, the Church of England created outrage in response to the depiction of Manchester Cathedral in the Insomniac Games title, Resistance: Fall of Man.
The PlayStation 3 exclusive Resistance was nominated for a BAFTA’s Gamers’ Award, arousing controversy once more, with The Dean of Manchester Cathedral, the Very Rev Rogers, wishing for BAFTA to remove the nomination immediately.
According to Rogers, Sony is moving too slowly to take action, and fears that other establishments may be under similar threat:
"There was disgust at the virtual desecration of Manchester Cathedral. We asked Sony to sign up to some digital guidelines, asking them to respect our sacred places of prayer ... Sony's response was very limited and other churches, cathedrals and historic buildings may be at risk of exploitation.” said Very Rev Rogers Govender.
"I plead with BAFTA to send a signal to the industry and to Sony and withdraw Resistance: Fall of Man from the nominations".
The BAFTA Videogame Awards will take place October 23.

It should NOT be withdrawn. Thats rediculous.. and the church doesnt own the things. They have done a hundred years ago when they were still persecuting people for not following their guidelines but this is the 21st century - and its bout time the church realised they no longer have ultimate control over what is done, and what people do.

They don't have a case... absolutely assinine. After Sony didn't give them the "contribution" they requested in compensation for using a church "Representation", they are just mad. Guess they thought they would get a payoff to help pay for all those molestation cases.

Well, maybe they should contact the chimeran homeplanet and let the chimeran council leaders know about their displeasure with their choice of locations to pillage and capture!!!!, Ya Know what they'd say? GrrrrrrGGrrrrrrr blabrgegeg. and then they'd launch a spire right into the center of their town!!!! that's what they'd do!

I really didn't think the Church could get any more pathetic, and yet they prove me wrong again. Hmm, great move CofE, this kind of nonsnece will really get the punters back in through the doors and not make you look like a bunch of out-of-touch muppets.

Come on...its stupidity like this that gives unbelievers reason to dislike the Christian religion. They make it sound like you have a mission to go an distroy the building. Its a fictionary period were europe has fallen, people used the church for safe haven....our interaction with the church was to kill all the aliens in it. If anything the game lets us purify the building from the band of ominus-intented beings that are defiling the building with their very presense. Yes I can see how depicting violence in the church my be disturbing, but just looking at the setting should justify why it is being done.....jeez, you could have sworn that they showed people in the church during high mass and all of a sudden you start going ape-sh!t shooting everything. I'm a Christian believer and I think this "very rev" is blowing this way out of purportion.

what I hate the most about this is that so many movies have depicted churches and other such houses of worship in scense of war, but you don't hear complaining. These people don't view video games as a viable form of entertainment, which I find offensive. The church just needs to shutup and fall into obscurity.

lol djrussell, ur a muppet, ofcorse the church owns the rights to manchester cathedral! resistance rocks, and it is a completely fictional story, where the player isnt destroying the cathedral itself! so i dont see why 'the church or other establishments are under such threat' maybe if some kid weilding a shotgun ran in to the cathedral they would have a point!

The Church should look at their own history, they have done far worse than what happens in Resistence. The Church years ago would make Manhunt 2 seem like a Viva Pinata game.
Other churches don't mind when film crews come in and blow the place up for a movie. As long as they get the cash, thats all whats really important to them.

I'v got the game, the church pissed me off so much I now refuse to save the church from the aliens! By the way the more the church tries to refuse us the right to be free and independant the more people will turn against them and we will become the aliens and fight against the church and who wil the church turn to? Gamers, thank you!

I find it funny that there is outrage when Resistance has a unnamed church in it, but there is only mixed feelings when halo 3 is played in ACTUAL churches.
