20th Century Fox’s movie adaptation of Max Payne has proven to be a success among film goers across the pond, with the film grossing $18 million USD during its opening weekend, topping the U.S. Box Office in the process.
Based on Rockstar’s highly successful videogame series, Max Payne stars Mark Wahlberg as the eponymous maverick police officer as he embarks on a quest for revenge following the brutal murders of his wife and daughter.
Venturing in to the criminal underground in search of the perpetrators, Payne is soon forced to confront enemies beyond that of the natural world, as he comes to terms with an unthinkable betrayal.
Despite its initial success, the film has been panned by critics, with the Los Angeles Times commenting, "Turning videogames into movies may be one way for studios to coax teenagers away from their laptops, but this time around, the results are miserable, in every sense of the word.”

i thought max payne was pretty good compared to other video game movies, doom sucked, silent hill sucked. Max Payne is the best one made yet. Mark whalberg is a good actor. if he's not in max payne 2 they should just get matt damon, lol but, there will be a 2nd one probably but, they left it open in a way i think

matt damon?? no way man,he's an awsome kickazz actor in all but he wouldnt do great as nathan drake for uncharted... i cant think off the top of my head who would be great for the role but im sure they'l cast someone perfect for the job.
oh and as far as max payne movie goes.. ima probably go see it today.. was deciding weather or not the movie is worth downloading or not... but im a fandango-ist so i checked out the viewers ratings (not the worthless critics ratings either) and it got an overall "GO" score so it sounds pretty descent for a pg-13 movie.

@12 I agree with you Matt Damon is a great actor but he lacks that comedic timing, just use the guy that played the part of Drake,I thought he did a great job,the acting in uncharted is the best out there!as far as Max Payne goes we here in SA will have to wait another few weeks before Marky Mark hit our shores!

Decent flick. It strayed a little from the game storyline quite often but... some cool action sequences kept it rolling. I would strongly suggest the sequel getting a different director and screenwriters. They need to give Max a little more depth than what they did in this first attempt. All and all entertaining. C+

I still remember ppl saying this movie was going to flop when they announced it...ppl need to understand just cause its a video game movie doesnt means its going to flop. you have to look at the actors involved. The actor basically made the movie awesome.
