Member Spotlight: Round 6

Posted on April 5th, 2008 at 12:37 EDT

(continued from previous page) ...life changed forever. I’ll still post in the main sections on occasion and the style of my posting there is nothing like that of my posting in the GCC section, so I really don’t see your point my good Sir.

Dave Wales: Well, I’m sure we could debate that point profusely and in the end your posts would be made of win, so we’ll just agree to disagree. Where does gaming fit into your life and how often do you get to enjoy it?

Miamiman: Gaming is now a very big part of my life. Actually, throughout all of high school, I took a hiatus from gaming to concentrate on my “studies”…Studying the ladies…. (Oh up high David, don’t leave me hanging here bro, slap me some skin). What were we talking about again? Oh yeah, so for four years I didn’t really game, and if I did, it was on one of my older systems, those being N64, PSone, and the SNES. Yep, I missed a whole generation of gaming, the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and the Dreamcast era, but come summer 2006, I truly missed it, so I decided to do some research on this coming generation of consoles. I was originally going to get a Wii, because it was cheap, my friend was getting one, and I had always been a patron of Nintendo, but it wouldn’t maximize the capabilities of my HDTV. Then I started looking at Xbox360s and I almost bought one, but found out that if you buy a core system, you have to pay for a buttload of add-ons. Finally, I looked at the PS3. I would be able to bask in HD glory and everything was packaged in one box. I had the money, so I said “why not?” I bought a 60GB off of eBay and actually saved 2 dollars because had I bought it from the retailer, I would’ve had to pay tax and the listing included HDMI and DVI cables and I can honestly say I’m very happy with my purchase. I may get the other consoles later on, but right now, I am truly satisfied. I get to enjoy gaming every Tuesday since I don’t have class and Thursday since I only have one class and the Subscriber game nights are awesome thanks to TH3 GAM3, Daevv, Idenowhereiam, Leukoplast and sometimes WonsAuto. Why the Hell have you not played with us Wales??

Dave Wales: I’m pretty sure this interview speaks for why I haven’t.  You’re terrible Miami, just terrible.  That and Hot Shots Golf has taken over my entire life. What genre of gaming fits your needs best and what's your favorite game from that area?

Miamiman: Aww man, this is a tough one. I’m pretty open to all genres of gaming. I just got into shooters this year. I really like sports games, but I know I’ll get lynched by the community if I just talk about that. I like RPG’s a lot, but at times they move too slow for me. I would have to say a good adventure game can always satisfy the need. A great story is what I’m interested in and the storytelling of games has increased tenfold. As for my favorite game, that’s really tough. From that genre I’d have to say God of War, only because I played it recently. Hockeydude30 actually recommended it to me and now I see what I missed during the PS2 era.

Dave Wales: You missed God of War and about one hundred other amazing titles from that generation of gaming.  How has gaming inspired your life to work in a Thai restaurant?

Miamiman: Wow David. You’re going all out on these questions. I actually have to leave for work in 30 minutes which is why my replies to your questions are getting shorter. Hmm…how gaming inspired me to work in a Thai restaurant? You say that as if being a server was my main goal in life. I still have a ways to go my friend. This job is only supposed to pay my way through college, but I guess I’ll play along.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was at my local Gameworks (an arcade) playing House of the Dead 2 when I ran out of credits on the last boss of the ... (continued on next page)

Cool interview. Glad you decided to get a PS3 after your hiatus from the Sony family. Don't you dare get a Wii or a 360. Just kiddin'. But seriously, don't.

Hmm. It wasn't the best interview I've read but it was O.k., I'd give it a 5/10.

I almost feel sorry for Miamiman, he missed out on one of the best console generations of all time, the 6th gen conosle generation (a.k.a. the PS2 era), there was just too many good games in that era to miss out on.

That's what I was thinkin' man. I think that era was crucial, anyone who missed out on that era really missed out on a lot of games and knowledge. Videogames really became mainstream with the PS2 and X-Box, mostly PS2.
