Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle kills Amazon

Earlier this morning, Amazon.com provided the public with an opportunity to pre-order the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle that is set to go on sale June 12 of next week. Unfortunately, Amazon was not prepared for the onslaught of hits that would accumulate once that digital gate had been opened.
Due to this unforeseen (how?) traffic increase, Amazon.com was literally flooded and their services were rendered unavailable. It took a mere seven minutes for rabid Metal Gear fans to pre-order the full amount of 80GB systems that Amazon had to offer.
If you happened to miss out on this pre-order bonanza, you'll still have a chance to grab one of these bundles when the game hits retail shelves next week. You'll have the option to buy the MGS4 bundle at your local GameStop, though sadly GameStop is going to require that you buy the L.E. headset for MGS4 as well, bringing your total bundle price to a rather steep $560. To some this will be a small price to pay for Metal Gear Solid lore, while for others it'll be impossible to justify their purchase.
As more news pops up surrounding MGS4, we'll be sure to keep you informed.

Do you really believe it was everyone trying to order the MGS bundle from Amazon? This is a website that handles tons of traffic a day; I don't think every PS3 owner in the world would be able to take down their servers. It's likely some other issue that rendered the site unavailable, and just happened to occur the same day as MGS went up. Hey, as much as I'd like to think it was the MSG sale, I just don't see it happening.

That doesnt matter an overflow of people trying to get into a certain page at the same time can crash any server. Amazon covers most of the world. 100,000 + people trying to access a web page at the exact same time would crash any server. Yeah Im sure it was just a coincidense on the same day at the same time MGS pre orders went up lmao

Gamestop forcing customers to buy the LE Headset as well? Typical. It's stuff like this that makes me glad I'm shopping at Target and Play-n-Trade for my gaming needs.

Well like mentioned before Amazon gets a lot of traffic everyday. But with MGS4 the traffic probably grew to the extent that servers crash. At least Amazon is up and running. KANT WAIT FOR JUNE 12!!

Kratos, I actually live on the West coast in California. Play-N-Trade is mostly focused in the Central Region, but they're expanding. They're not any better than Gamestop sometimes when it comes to pricing, but I'd pay an extra $2 just so the sales person doesn't keep hassling me about pre-orders. Also they import games and accessories as well, they had the DS3 since the launch in Japan.

Well, technically they're not saying that you have to buy the headset in order to buy the metal gear solid 4 playstation 3 bundle. The way they have it is as a bundle. It's kind of like when they include second controllers and simply add the controller value to the price. they're not saying you have to buy a second controller to buy the system, it's just that that controller (or in this case headset) is included in the bundle and thus the price is more. I know it's getting highly technical to make a buck, but there's still people who will do it.

@24 I couldnt agree with you more. My local gamestop has at least 4 360 biased employees that have something smart a** to say whenver I get something for my PS3. My only alternative is Wallmart in my area, and they often don't carry the special edition game packages.
