Konami recently showcased its highly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas yesterday, giving those in attendance a chance to witness the games performance in real-time.
As reported by website PunchJump.com, the stealth adventure was frequently seen to fluctuate between 30 – 60fps (frames per second), depending on the level of action happening on-screen at the time.
Quieter moments in Solid Snake’s latest outing, which takes place in the ruins of a warn-torn city, were shown to run at a full 60fps; this typically included little combat and more emphasis on nearby buildings in which the main character can take shelter.
However, once the action becomes considerably heightened, including multiple accounts of gunfire, explosions, smoke and several characters in action, the game drops to the lower speed of 30fps.
The website notes that all in-game cut scenes ran at a smooth 60fps, and visual quality was of notably high standard regardless of the frame rate the game was running at.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is due out exclusively on PS3 in the second quarter of 2008.

As long as it has no drops below 30, I'm fine. I mean, the game is still a first gen game, so it still has some kinks. We can't expect God of War yet, ya know?

I've heard that the human eye can process 120 fps, so 60 fps looks amazingly smooth I just hope the transition in-between to two isn't overly noticible.
Just like SolsticeZero, Playing off-line games that drop below 30 fps (LAG ALERT!) just suck. It completely wrings the experience for the gamer. 1080p@30-60fps?

Actually, the human eye can mainly see at 57fps, but can see higher if you concentrate hard enough. That's why 60fps looks so smooth, cause it's higher than your eye's natural refresh rate

psn id: gingo... the human eye cant detect the difference between 60 and 30 fps unless they are next to each other on different teles so this shouldn't be a problem as lnog as it doesn't dip below 30
Wait nah! Hold on that BS, it can’t be. a lot of people have their own opinions about how fast the human eye + brain can receive and process information. it's more complicated then you might think because your visual aquity actually drops dromatically when you're in the dark. Your brain has to work much harder to processing the infromation being recieved by your eyes. I'm not the type of person who likes to through titles at people so I won’t; I've always been taught that human beings can effectively and efficiently interpret visual information up to 120 fps (my teacher says stick with this number). Ask an eye doctor, or a Physiologist; human beings can see well past 60 fps i'm sure of it, it’s true. I'm a Computer Graphics Student by the way.
XenoSilvano your eye dont see sh1t mate the eye is used to gather light which is focused on light sensitive cells on the retina which sends a signal along the optic nerve YOUR brain makes the picture that you see NOT your eyes that's why you see the pink elephants when you use your drugs THEY don't exist the brain makes them exist now do you understand anything above 24 fps can look smooth if done correctly.
I don't understand what all the negative comments are for. Everyone understands what I'm saying; I don't have to get technical about it because the only person who really gives a damn is you. And 1 is too small a number to give a damn about, frankly I think that quite sad. I think you should without a doubt go get yourself checked, see a psychologist (take your parents with you); anti-social behavior is quite a problem nowadays it gives the gaming community a bad name. Treating others with the dignity and respect that you'd expect from them goes a long way. Continue being anti-social and see how far you go

I bet those drops are when smoke and particle systems are on screen. COD4 drops the frame rate too when we're in the middle of a smoke bomb.

gingo, you're posting BS. I can definitely tell the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS without having them side-by-side.
Try playing Counter-Strike: Source at 30FPS. You NEED at least 37-45FPS for an ideal round of CS: S, or else your accuracy and response rate will be offset.

XenoSilvano I dont really give a monkey's *%@~ what you think I WAS just giving you the facts thats all YOUR EYES DONT SEE thats all i was stating many sites post various opinions re how many fps you need for smooth movement no one is 100% right as it all depends on the conditions that something is filmed under and equipment used or indeed how the graphics are generated by a console/computer .HOWS THIS ONE FOR YOU i have a flashgun for my camera it can make a flash that lasts 100,000th of a second I can see that but it does not mean my eyes can process as you put it 100,000 fps NOW do you see what I mean.
