A recent SEC filing by Activision has revealed that the publisher is planning on releasing a new title in the Guitar Hero franchise based on legendary heavy metal group, Metallica.

Unearthed by Wedbush Morgan securities analyst, Edward Woo, the filing disclosed plans to release the upcoming music simulation title in Q1 2009.

"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," Activision stated in its report.

The publisher’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009, indicating that the game will likely show up not long after the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Guitar Hero: Metallica will mark the second title in the series based solely on one group, the other being the forthcoming summer release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, due out on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PC, Xbox 360 and Wii.

Stay tuned for more information on Guitar Hero: Metallica as it becomes available.

This sounds pretty stupid honestly, I heard that Metallica were complaining about a year ago that guitar hero will make their album drop sales and now they've agreed an entire game around there music????

Activision are going to ruin the Guitar Hero franchise by releasing way too many GH games!

I really don't like GH. I think its more for mediocer gamers, and people who think video games are to complicated. Howerver, my mom loves GH III (its the only game she has)and  even let her borrow my PS2 so she could play. The only thing that interest me is for the love of GOD please have Enter Sandman. Its the only song I could see myself sitting down to play next her.

These games are a joke. I agree with emo-mercenary, they are running these games into the ground. Whats next GUITAR HERO: FALLOUT BOY!?!?

I wonder if this game will be using the new 5 button periperal.  If that's the case I will not be buying it.  if you can use the same guitar controller as gh3, then I will gladly purchase it.  I refuse to spend any more money on peripherals.  But I have a feeling that gh:aerosmith will be the final gh game I purchase for the simple reason of too much money and not enough space at my place for all this crap.

They wanted a way to compete with Rock Band and finally found the answer. A Guitar Hero game based solely on Metallica would definitely do the job. I'm getting this game for sure! As long as it won't have the stupid drum and microphone.

Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and Justice for All are the only good albums. Everything else blows with the exception of Garage Days Re-revisited. Bob Rock pretty much ruined them starting with the Black album. Thanks Bob!

And I bet that hardly anything from the early albums will make it into the game.

     @ Static-X

Metallica is one of the greatest heavy metal group known, Playing Entersand man on expert drums and Bass guitar is truly a challenge along with Ride the lighting

Static-x:  Remember, for true technical GH fans, remember that One had a much more entertaining chart than Stairway can ever have.

Seriously Metallica? you're down with this now??? Well eff you, it's too late. If you really wanna win back old fans release a album that isn't horrible, and don't be such whiney d-bags! I still prefer GH over Mock Band any day though.
