Developed by Russian team 4A-Games, Metro 2033: The Last Refuge is a title that hasn't had too much attention of late, but from the looks of these latest screenshots, that's about to change.
In an interview with GamesRadar, 4A-Games creative director Andrew Prokhorov discussed how their new engine would boast new technologies allowing for Metro 2033 to be one of the biggest upcoming FPS games in terms of sheer graphical prowess.
"There isn’t a single static light source; basically, light bulbs shake and break,” said Prokhorov. "The number of light sources in a frame is limited by common sense, not by programmers. But fully dynamic lighting isn’t an end in itself; it allows us to create the game in the process of playing it, without wasting time on recalculation of lightmaps, shadows, and other stuff. We also use visualization technology to give the game a film-like image, and we’re adding 64-bit HDR with eye adaptation, depth of field, motion blur, and PhysX."
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the title, Metro 2033 will have players take the role of Artem, a young soldier who must reach the underground city of "Polis" to warn them of incoming attacks from "The Darkness" (mutated humans and animals). During the fight to the inner city, players must weave their way through all the different political organizations and governments. According to 4A Games, NPC's will live out their lives independently outside of the player's interactions, giving the game's society a more realistic feel.
Last we heard from 4A-Games, they had signed with a major publisher and that new media and information would be forthcoming. Until then, be sure to check out the latest screenshots in our gallery here. We've contacted 4A-Games for another update, so stay tuned for more details.

Awesome looking game, really cool, it seems alot like fallout 3 but it definitely has its own flavor and the story sounds quite interesting love the monster design as well, but this game don't have crap on KZ2 in terms of graphics

this is what i expect from up coming fps, to look better than killzone2. any fps that don't look better than killzone2 is a huge let down.

@14 He's right you know, KZ2 raises the bar so anything that doesn't live up to it will go the same way as haze

This has nothin on KZ2 graphic wise...unless these screens are from alpha build i dont think they can call it a GRAPHICAL POWERHOUSE just yet..cuz in my eyes KZ2's graphics pop out more than this and at least we can see stuff...this is all dark...like 360 games...

This game looks great. It reminds me of the Stalker series available for pc in many ways. I have always like the combination of FPS/RPG. I have been reading the comments, and I hope this game does indeed make it to PS3.
