Miyamoto denies being inspired by Ratchet & Clank

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has shot down earlier reports that the spherical elements in his latest Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy, were inspired by Insomniac’s title Ratchet and Clank, claiming he has “never seen” the game before.
In a recent interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine UK, the Nintendo General Manager admitted he was “surprised” to hear of Insomniac’s claims, who previously said that the studio was “flattered” upon seeing the spherical worlds depicted in Galaxy.
However, Miyamoto insists this is not the case: “In terms of the spherical worlds and anti-gravity," he said, "we had the original idea as soon as we finished the development of Mario 64 and had been experimenting with it for many years, even on the N64."
"It's not an idea we got from anywhere else," insisted Miyamoto, before stating he didn’t even know which console the game was released on.
"I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?”

I don't think he's lying when he says he didn't take the idea from Ratchet and Clank, but saying he's "never heard of it" is pretty moronic. The only explanations I can think of, if he's being genuine, are 1) Nintendo paid him off to try and lower the brand name of R&C (not sure why they'd do that, but whatever), or 2) He genuinely hasn't heard of it, because he doesn't keep up-to-date with competing game franchises, in which case, he's not very business-savvy. Either way, he makes himself look stupid by saying he's never heard of a franchise that's sold over 100,000,000 units since its' inception.

Everyone in the gaming industry should have heard of Ratchet & Clank... No wonder nintendo made such and under-powered system! They werent paying attention to what their competition was doing! What a loser...

Yeah this only further strengthens my opinion that Nintendo doesn't understand the average gamer and doesn't even understand it's competition. It's going to, once again, bite them in the ascii eventually.

My favorite part is the very end...."is it a PC game". Whatever! That statement leads me to believe he does know about it. How many PC games are like a Mario platformer??? LamE!!
I'm gonna believe that there wasnt inspiration from R&C but I think his answer was lame!

I find it hard to believe that he has not heard of Ratchet and Clank before, but I will give him the benefit of a doubt. He has not been shy in the past when it comes too praising other games, for example Samba de Amigo. I will say this on his defense, the Mario 128 Tech demo for the game cube was already demonstrating a spherical world, and it re-formed into different shapes.

Please, whoever thinks that the mastermind behind all that is Video Games would take an idea from someone else without giving that person/people credit is insane, Miyamoto is the Video Game Father since he gave birth to this era we live in back in the day when it was going straight nowhere but death, and i would doubt that he doesn't know what this franchise is due to the fact that it's been around for a while and it's one of PlayStation's biggest franchises

I think he's plainly made it obviuos he's talking bull by saying he's never heard of Ratchet & Clank and made it even more so when he says "is it a PC game?" Before his reply when he was informed of the claims by Insomniac, surely then he was told about R&C and what platform it was on?
Its typical Nintendo to say that they have been working on these ideas for many years when really thats bull too.
What I hate about Nintendo is that you never hear about any Nintendo employee playing on other systems. With Sony and Microsoft and exclusive developers to these 2, you hear of them talk about playing other games on other system but a Nintendo employeee will never say, even though one site (I think IGN) has a picture of Miyamoto playing the EyeToy at a games convension.

Of course they've been experimenting with it since Mario 64. That's why they waited to implement it after R&C. DUH!

BULLS***. Miyamoto is an overrated fraud and i'm glad he's finally being called out instead of having his d*** sucked by the gaming media. So he created Mario. Whoop-dee-fuc****-doo. He ran Mario into the ground by the 90s. Anything else?
