Modern Warfare 2 UK sales top 1.7 million

Chart Track has revealed that Infinity Ward juggernaut Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold a whopping 1.7 million copies in the UK in just one week.
The stellar shooter smashes previous records set by Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV, which managed 927,000 in the same time frame. Apparently, the Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 shifted the most copies, accounting for one million units sold. In total, the game grossed GBP £67.4 million.
Unsurprisingly, the sequel muscled its way to the top of the UK All Format Charts, knocking former contender FIFA 10 off the top spot in the process. Our review of Modern Warfare 2 can be read here.

IMO the reason xbox is so popular is because of some of their systems are so cheap, the parents see it and just buy it for their kids. which is why you have so many kids on xbl screaming their nuts off
One way to put it is that the PS3 is the big boy's system, more advanced, more capabilities and sleeker.
the xbox is just a cheap runner up, the preferred choice for parents to buy for their kids

think how many more they would have sold if it wasnt over priced (yeah i know was cheap everywhere), and they didnt screw up teh pc vesion. i herd they lost like a million pc pre orders world wide, may have even been more.

PS3 owners don't all need to flock to the lastest thing. We have plenty of killer titles at the mo. Eventually PS3 sales will match and exceed the Xbox sales.

If i'm not mistaking there are more ps3s being used in the uk than the us right now.The us has to fight with xbox 360 for modern warfare players so thats the reason there even close.

I work at GAME and we sold so many copies of CoDMW2 it was insane, seriously I worked a shift today and every other game sold was MW2! Also most people bought it on the 360, and the fanboyism is unbelievable. I actually get verbally insulted by customers when I tell them I prefer the PS3.

i'm saving cod mw2 for christmas, i spent my remaining gaming money on uncharted 2.

that's scary, especially since the people ive heard from who bought MW2 said it really wasn;t very good (especially the single player)
@1 i hadn't thought of that, but with the depression id believe it, tho ur forgetting titles such as Demon's Souls & RCF:ACiT

Well, congratulations to IW is in order, I suppose. I look forward to buying it myself one day when it's NOT $120.
Or I could stop being a sook and just ebay it for half the price. ;)

I think the reason for these high sale numbers are the hype, but if it is as most people ive talked to are saying, that the game isnt any good, then its actually horrible that the game sells so well, it will make IW and other developers look at it and copy it even more..
Ive yet to make my own decision tho, as im putting MW2 under the christmas three. Liked the COD4 and COD5 so hope its not to mich milking.
