Modern Warfare 2 sets first day sales record in UK

There was a great deal of hype leading up to the launch of Modern Warfare 2, and according to initial first day UK sales figures, the hype seems to have lived up to expectations. Modern Warfare 2 sold an estimated 1.23 million units, grossing around £47 million (GBP), according to figured released today by ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack.
“These first day sales figures are astonishing and clear evidence that videogames are now mainstream in the UK, said Michael Rawlinson, director general of Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA). “Our form of interactive entertainment has completely come of age. Just like some movies and books, this is specifically intended for an adult audience and accordingly has emotional, adult content.
“So, as an 18-rated videogame, it is important that this game is not played by children, and parents should be appropriately vigilant. We ask everyone to make sure they check the packaging of games to ensure they are suitable for their players, especially as we enter the festive season when videogames are one of the most popular gifts of the holiday.”
The previous first day sales record was held by Grand Theft Auto IV, which pushed an estimated 631,000 units, and grossing £27.2 million on its first day of release on April 29, 2008.

Good game, we play it at work. But I won't buy it personal, They dont know how to give to the ps3 like they give for xbox. they still port to ps3 and how do you mess up online play the day they release the game. Its all about MAG. thats where my money is going.

I posted this earlier on another forum, hoping someone can help see more value in this SUPER SHORT game. Its shorter than Heavenly Sword.
I think I got screwed. So with all the crazy hype yesterday I went out and bought this game. I came home from work all amped to spend all night playing. I sat down started the single player campaign and 4 and 1/2 hour laters it was over. Ummm, wheres the rest of the game? I gotta be honest, I dont care about multiplayer or coop. It was a sweet 4 hours, but this game is WAY too short. I just slapped it up on ebay, hopefully I can get enough for it to buy the new Ratchet and Clank

Wow #8, if you're not playing online you shouldn't have got the game, I think I remebered IGN video review poitnnig that out as well, but still, if you're not playing online on any games, (notably cod4 since you don't play onlin mw2), you havent lived!

This game is worth every penny. Don't listen to the whiners. If you liked cod4, you will love this one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do play online, specifically Uncharted2 and Killzone2, I also got into Resistance for awhile, but games like Modern Warware 2, have tons of really good players and I just get smoked by a bunch of 11 year olds all day. You are right, I should have read the reviews, I just got sucked into the hype.

guess alot of people only bought this game for the online play. seems that the story line is just a warm up. they should just make the game just a online play if the story line is only 4 hours long just like terminator salvation.

@22, actually the people who suk most at the game will stand up for it more i'd magine. in my vast experience of mw1 (i played that game enough to realise this one might not work for me) which i dominate just about every single game i play unless i'm getting mega lag and my friend who plays it also destroys teams by himself, without taking it seriously. The only way one game could please so many people in my opinion is if it is dumbed down to the lowest common denominator (lowest being the guys with martydom and just about anyone who doesn't use the m40 for sniping) there is no teamwork, if your good at least.....good being average. i loved cod 4 because it was the first online game i'v ever played and i thought i was amazing because i won a free for all on my first go. i found the game addictive because i was raping everyone, all the time and it's fun. but ultimately the it's those last minute, try to be a hero moments in bf:bc and killzone 2 that i found the most intense. you don't look at the score or objective in cod4 because if your thrashing people then you will win. but hey, thats just my 2 cents

to tell the truth i bought this for PC and the SP is great....but compared to MW1 the MP is a huge let down. Most of the problem lies within the horrible match making service IW is providing and the fact that 90% of players don't have good enough internet to host 18 people with good latenency.
Solution?
Dedicated Servers....but that'll probably never happen. -

Big WOOT.......... sort of but when you sell it a £26 in most supermarkets its going to break records! not really a big deal now if it was £39.99 like most new released game i would be impressed but cheap supermarket sales have super bumped the stat's

I only got it cos i paid £26 from Sainsburys. It pisses me off cos the really top exclusive games i.e Unch 2 & Killzone 2 have steady sales. Every single Ps3 owner should have rewarded N.D & G.G by purchasing them. I think its sad, especially if we lose our 1st party devs
