Monster Hunter 3 no longer coming to PS3

Capcom has cited high development costs of working on Sony’s PlayStation 3 console as the reason for why it has made the latest iteration in the Monster Hunter franchise a Nintendo Wii exclusive.
Monster Hunter 3, previously said to be in development for the PS3, was announced yesterday as a Wii exclusive at a Nintendo media briefing in Tokyo.
Katsuhiko Ichii, Capcom’s Managing Corporate Officer, commented, "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title.”
The Monster Hunter series had formally been exclusive to PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable, having enjoyed critical and commercial success on a global basis, selling upwards of 4.5 million units.

Capcom is pretty much dead to me. They've pretty much kicked PS owners in the nuts and have been spitting on us as a follow up. I'll care about Capcom when they start caring about us again or when they start announcing some PS3 exclusives cause what they've been doing for the PS3 is a disservice to the fans.

yeah right. Capcom is neither capable no willing to utilize PS3's full power. They arent capable of making High Def games. They try to cover up their incapabilities with "waah high development costs" and "waah unfamiliar hardware". they havent even made a descent Mega Man game in forever! I hope they go out of business or get bought out by a competent company.

Not ONLY Japan..it's so hit in HongKong and Taiwan(I live in HongKong)
Many of us were shocked to hear this f*****g news..since we are so excited and expect to see MH3 in PS3 with amazing graphic..huge maps without any loading... and also the network(for network,i know w** also can..but..)
Moreover, some of us just bought PS3 for MH3..And in the game magazines,MH3 keeps in Top 5 of the expecting list
Now ,"capcom" really becomes a word meaning greedy,immoral,multiplatform..ect
Conversation like this is commom:
A:Hey! xxx looks great!
B:Wow, but.. does it capcom?
Yeah..Capcom..you are so capcom... -

I doubt it's the development costs of the PS3. You have to remember that they are currently working on 2 of their big name franchises (Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5) plus with the costs of their 360 outings, they've more than likely already spent a pretty penny on R&D between the 2 consoles. And from the release I read about Nintendo 'winning' the contract for the game makes it sound like Capcom wanted Sony to pony up for costs and they wouldn't so they went to the next Japanese manufactuer. I have the feeling they'll move the PSP installments to the DS as well. Bunch of a** hats.

I dont care - I had only just heard about this game a few weeks ago - The excuse they gave doesnt make sense and I have no idea why they suddenly changed their minds about PS3. They would have known the costs ages ago - why bring it up now. Duck-heads - Their loss. One less customer.

Ok, there are two main positions you can take here. The first is that Capcom is lazy and doesn't want to spend the time on the PS3. That appears to be the common thread here on this site. The second is that perhaps they are correct, in that to make a good game for the PS3 is very difficult and to do so would cost them a ton for a market that is currently less than 1/2 the Nintendo Wii. So, in their view it means that they might spend 2X as much for 1/2 the sales. That obviously doesn't make business sense.
I tend to believe that the truth is somewhere in the middle and Sony (and us PS3 fans) shouldn't rip in to Capcom, but try and help ALL developers with better tools to develop PS3 software. Sony has always done a bad job at this and this time they can ill afford to not work with the major companies on this issue. The develpment tools are improving, but obviously they need to improve further.
Now "if" the PS3 somehow gets to 25 million before the Wii or 360 gets to 15 million (not going to happen without another GIANT price cut), then those developers will be forced to spend the time because of the marketshare. Until then Sony and IBM will need to offer assistance to companies like EA and Capcom.

I understand Capcom's reasoning--I understand businesses need to make profits and large install bases make that possible.
However, what I don't respect is that Capcom shows NO loyalty to the company (Sony) that got them where they are today--that put them on the roadmap.
And even more so, I am DISGUSTED by their BS lies about taking their titles multi-platform because they want EVERYONE to have the chance to experience them. That is pure crap...where is Dead Rising? Where is Lost Planet? Now, where is Monster Hunter 3? But...Hmmm....Devil May Cry 4 & Resident Evil 5--multiplatform--and every other Sony series from Capcom.
I understand--but don't FREAKING LIE to us like we're a bunch of morons--you're not pursuing a multi-platform strategy so don't feed people that garbage...it's a lie. You disgust me and have lost a fan for not being straight up.

Believe it or not....this news it a stong blow to Sony on the asian market..........that was definately a console seller for those regions, and a big one at that. I don't really care for the game myself, but I know what its capable of, and out of that respect I was waiting for this game to drop for the PS3 to boost those big sales. Anyways, even though this is bad news....Crapcom took the easiest way out.....cause of they make it exclusive to the 360, MS would have had off the walls record sale in Japan (think Smalo 3)..and having the 360 skyrocket in Japan, on a titlte that was promised for the PS3 (to have the same effect) would have been unforgiven.

Capcom been Capcon ever since they put resident evil on the gamecube even though they knew the fans were on the ps2. Now their doing the same thing with mh3 and devil may cry three. Will really know where they stand when bring out deadrising 2 and lostp2. Becareful capcon that your company doesn't end up like lourne lannings company for forgetting who the true fans are.Big ups to kojima and co. for sticking with the ps3 they seem like the only willing to give sony a chance.

F**k you Capcom in 3 years from now when the ps3 dominates dont try and come back to get a piece of the action we will have moved on without you. I dont understand this development companies even if it is expensive why the f**k put it on another console thats not even your user base? Your real user base will buy it regardless. Well i hope it crashes and burns on the Wii that thing is only a fad playstation is the king of all consoles and capcom is gonna soon regret it.

i would expect more of this kind of news if I were you. making games isnt about loyalty to your fan base. its about making money. you cant make as much money if it costs you more to develop for a platform that has a much lower install base. you only have to have a second grade math education to understand that. and if its not this scenario, you will always have to face the music about porting. All the best games will be developed on other systems and then ported to PS3 by a second rate dev team. oh, the horror. the horror.

It's too bad really. I enjoyed this game alot on PSP. The PS3 could've made one heck of a beautiful game and a great online community. The Wii's online is crap. I won't buy this game if it's ported over from the Wii either.

You Know... I really wish companies like crapcom read these postings.... What I hate is the whole cover up what we truly mean aspect... Crapcom and companies like them must really assume consumers to be nothing but mindless video game players and have little deduction capabilities... This is what they should say... For a game Like MH3 which has the look and feel of a Pokeman game believe that it would be better suited for the Nintendo Wii system and the fact that the install base of the Wii is far greater than the PS3 it means that we will see a more profitable margin plus the money gained from exclusivity cannot be passed up ... after all we are a business and care nothing for fans.... Crapcom... Just a little hint... Pay more attention to who pays your bills.

I don't even think MH3 for the Wii will be a true sequeal, rarther an update from MH2 with slightly cleaner visuals due to 480p on Wii.
But check this, on the Namco forums, one poster posted this "Capcom is losing fans. They obviously don't care for their PS3-owner fans." theu got a response from from Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research for Capcom Christian Svensson. He says "Let's see how they feel at the end of next week about us."
Apparently there is to be a big Capcom announcement next week and the word is that its PS3 related.
I don't see this being a totally new franchise and seeing as RE5 and DMC4 is Caocoms biggist games including Monster Hunter for Japan and other Asian nations, the announcement would have to do with something about these 3 games. Frankly the way Capcom have treated their main fans or their once was fans , PS owners. I wouldn't settle for anything less than a RE5 PS3 exclusive announcement. What about you guys?
Something else that I can think of is that Capcom want a MMO monster hunter game and the PS3 is the place to do it. So Capcom passed MH3 to the Wii and the real true nex-gen MH game will be a MMO game for the PS3. The success of huge multiplayer only games like WarHawk has inspiredf over devs to do the same on Sony's open and free platform, you never know?

I was always on the fence about the whole "F*** CAPCOM!!!" deal but I think that this news right here means i can safely say "F*** CAPCOM!!!!" and not feel bad.
THanks for this news Capcom, now i can finally hate you like everyone else on here!
But really, never played a Monster Hunter game. I was always a little intrigued by the idea of the games but never really gave them a try. And i was never really mad at Capcom for taking away any exclusives (though DMC did hurt i will admit) but the fact that we were at least still getting the games was reassuring enough. But the fact that we're actually losing titles while other platforms are recieving our games as exclusives is utter B.S. "F*** Capcom"

I thought about this a bit more & I'm not really angry. More often than not Capcom games have been pretty good and I've enjoyed them (Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - thankyou!).
So whilst Im dissapointed that they have made their decision we have to remember they are a business and are supposed to do the right thing by their shareholders. Its not their fault PS3 isnt selling the best... so why blame them?
