More MGS4 bundles on the way

Posted on June 24th, 2008 at 00:10 EDT

It appears that Sony and Konami may have underestimated the consumer demand for a PlayStation 3 bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4.

The MGS4 exclusive bundles seem to have been swept up as soon as they hit shelves. The bundle which was paired with an 80GB PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (regular edition), a Dualshock 3 and a voucher for a free download of PAIN from the PlayStation Store.

“Due to overwhelming demand, the product is currently unavailable. The new estimated time of arrival date for when this will be available is the beginning of July,” a Sony Style representative said.

Amazon.com has even gone as far as to instill a MGS4 pack policy in order to ensure gamers are able to get their hands on this hot seller: "As you may know, the PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack (“PS3 80GB MGS4 Pack”) is in great demand, and there are limited quantities of this product across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase a PS3 80GB MGS4 Pack, we are limiting the total number of PS3 80GB MGS4 Packs that can be purchased. As a result, each household may only purchase one PS3 80GB MGS4 Pack total."

While Sony has yet to provide any details on the stock of the bundle nor has it mentioned anything about a potential street date for the next wave of MGS4 bundles.

“While we can’t provide specifics on inventory levels, the Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 bundle is a limited-edition offering that’s experiencing high demand from Metal Gear and PlayStation enthusiasts,” the SCEA statement read. “We’re pleased with the strong consumer interest in the bundle and are working to ensure that additional shipments are provided to retailers.”

I just wish they could have foreseen this. Sony really could use the install numbers and a break in the bundle action like this isn't helping.

alright sony heres the deal if a bundle is selling well and your getting more systems out there why not make it a constant thing? i mean doesnt it make sense to package a console with its premium title? besides its the 80gb people want they want BC this is painfully obvious GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT

this is a good thing and on the other side its a bad thing on Sony part. its good because it could be people who really want the game still etc. etc. but bad cause this is snake last mission they knew how big MGS was on PS2. this was there chance to pull there fan base back from 360.  i mean i  don't know about Japan MGS4 bundle but the numbers sure sounds it did perfect there. this America get it out while its hot cause that can turn on a dime. i mean this same thing happen when PS3 was launched this lead to low sales and not being able to get it change people minds about getting it. but as a PS fan keep it up

I 'm seriously considering picking up a second PS3 since my launch 60gb is having video issues with MGS4.   They should release more gun metal PS3's as well.

psn id: gingo... sony should have foresaw the mass appeal this bundle would have and produced far more than they did, these will keep selling for at least another month or two so sony should keep them coming

You guys have no idea how much joy this brought into my heart. :D                              I've been calling every single store that could possibly have it within 25 miles of my house for the past eek, every single morning. One walmart even said they're not getting any more of these. Gamestop tried to tell me Sonys not making them anymore. I don't care what it takes, I'm getting one out of the next batch.

People that wanted the MGS bundle bad enough still purchased the game and a stand alone system. why flood the market place with more consoles when your current motorstorm bundles and stand alone 80gbs are still sitting on shelves. sony clearly wants to sell the most consoles they can but there are tons of ps3s out there and anyone that wanted to buy this game and play it easily could. sony needed to push out old bundles as well and the best way to do that is limit the new one. sony knows all about the mystical shortages. lol
