Wayne Shiu, the Product Marketing Manager for Namco Bandai, recently sat down to discuss the company’s upcoming fighting game Soul Calibur IV, and its inclusion of Star Wars characters Darth Vader and Jedi Master Yoda.

Speaking to Siliconera, Shiu touched on the decision to separate each character, rather than to release them across both formats, stating, “With Soul Calibur 2 we had platform exclusive characters, but this time around we wanted to give each platform a signature character”.

In regards to the developer’s choice of platform for each of the iconic fighters, Shiu explained that it was simply down to aesthetical differences, adding:

"We decided to bring Vader to the PS3 because he's dark and black. Then Yoda went to the Xbox 360 because he's green."

However, he did hint at the possibility of putting each character available for download, allowing players to pit the Sith Lord and Jedi Master against each other if they wish. Despite this, Shiu didn’t see cross platform multiplayer between the PS3 and Xbox 360 a likely candidate.

Soul Calibur IV is due out on PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2008.

Only One character .... maybe Tow

They should add much more than that to add more value to the game

Well we get Vadar, and hopefully more Sith characters in downloads, (remember they all wear black)

I reckon more companies should make cross-platform Multiplayer standard.. I'd personally love to be able to play Xbox players - and I'm sure they would like to play PS3 players. It's just more fun that way I reckon.. and it'd be especially cool to vs a 360 Yoda against my PS3 Vader :P

PS. Thank god the PS3 got Darth Vader.. given the chance I'd take him over ANY Star Wars character any day of the week.

So looking forward to this, Virtua Fighter 5 is getting slightly boring now so looking forward to a bout of the old Soul Calibur...

It kinda sucks that there will be no Vader vs. Yoda matches, but at least the PS3 version got Vader. It just seems like Yoda's size gives him an unfair advantage.

psn id: gingo.... well i'm glad i've got the "dark and black" version because although yoda is cool, darth vader is really the main character of star wars plus he's got a red light saber which is so much cooler than blue or green
