New Call of Duty game to release by March of 09

The Call of Duty franchise has been one of the best war shooters in the video game industry, surpassing that of Medal of Honor which was initially one of the highly sought after WWII shooters. Since then, the series has shifted away from the WWII battlefields and into a modern day Eastern European and Middle Eastern setting. That move represented by Call of Duty 4 has earned many game of the year awards and many respectable review scores. So what of a sequel?

In a financial conference held yesterday, Activision has revealed that a new Call of Duty title is expected to release during the company’s 2009 fiscal year, which runs from April 2008 to March 2009. Activision also confirmed that the new COD title will release on the PS3, PC, PS2, Wii, DS, and Xbox 360 platforms. They also confirmed that the time frame in which the new downloadable content for COD4 is to be released will be between April and June of this year. We'll remind you when that time comes.

The conference also confirmed that there are two new Guitar Hero games planned and that their first ever Bond game is due to release fiscal year 09 to coincide with the new Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

Not really interested in CoD5, especially if it is set in WW2 again- why take a step back? I can't see this being too good if they are only taking a year and a bit to make it.

if cod5 is set back in wwII  im not intereseted that would be a step back and not a good step I think. They should go modern wars im in the states so something with desert storm or something futuristic would be cool l

well one thing at a time first lets get some new maps for COD4, then ill worry about what era COD5 will be set in. what about COD5 Vietnam War its a step back but not a leap like WWII in the battle for the Pacific. hopefully they realise MODERN WARFARE is they way to continue the franchise

If they're going back to WW2, then they've shot themselves in the foot.  Nobody will buy it.  Hopefully Infinity Ward will really up the ante with COD6 when they start on that.  I want a COD game that will last longer than 4 hours in the campaign.

Not surprising, they have to please their investors. Bigger levels and more players in a game please!!

Activision had a really good thing going and they have to drive the bus back into the wall again. Infinity Ward is not developing it, tis set in the pacific (WWII era), and the fact that its coming to the Wii also this round tells me its going to be a gimped.

Where has the article stated that the next Call of Duty is going to be a World War II shooter?  Stop putting your feet in your mouths!  Even if it is based during World War II, Infinity Ward could change things up by letting you play in the boots of a German soldier.  And to be honest, there have been little to no good WWII shooters.  Never judge a book by its cover.

Last I heard it's set in the pacific. I wont judge it just yet, it could be good, But I personaly would have prefered Vietnam, or being a Brit, even the faulklands would be good, and not to mention different. Lets wait and see wots wot in a years time, and dont forget to allow another 8monthes for delays.

I think if the GAMEPLAY is good and as tight as the current COD, then I'm definitely picking it up on day 1!  I Don't even care about the setting. WW1 or WW2 is fine by me, just make sure the online component is tight and the weapon variety and locales are pretty and keep the PERKS, and everyone will probably give it a spin and they'll win more awards. But, Future warfare would be NICE!
