New Final Fantasy XIII battle screens, impressions

A set of Final Fantasy XIII screenshots has emerged via Japan's premium gaming magazine, Famitsu. The 11 screenshots include eight gameplay screens -- most displaying the game's active time battle system -- and three cinema stills. We've posted a few of the screens below, along with our (rough) Japanese to English translation of Famitsu's impression of the battle system.

"I finally had the gist of the entire FFXIII battle system. The battle screen layout is elegant, fresh, and gives the impression that the "fight" command and the time gauge are, indeed, like Final Fantasy. Fans of the series will be able to play without discomfort. At the end of each battle, a results screen is displayed that reviews the battles. " -Famitsu journalist

Hmm, they should make the HUD less convoluted since they seem to be going for a faster paced game. You can't play Kingdom Hearts with a Final Fantasy HUD.
EDIT: Can we just comment on the damn screens? Is that too difficult #2?

@2 - How about sticking to the topic instead of derailing the thread with your adolescent fanboy drivel? Is it really that hard for you? Anyway as for the topic those are some really nice screens. I can hardly wait to put this epic game in my PS3 and enjoy another great FF.

The battle system is not what I expect it to be. I thought it would play like kingdom hearts with traditional spells and items. But having to find out that it's all command based, I kind of lost the hype. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just because you don't seem to have much control over your characters like you do in kingdom hearts.

i hope this steers away from what XII had, i didnt like that. I much preferred the X.
However, if they make it even close to kingdom hearts it will be a great improvement on what they did with XII.
As you may guess, i certainly think Versus is going to be my choice between the two. -

its a shame it takes them an eternity to spit out such a pretty game...but good things come to those who wait! im in need of a good RPG again. although Killzone 2 and Resistance Co-op are keeping me busy when i do have downtime! this year is going to be amazing for ps3, i cant wait...but i guess i will wait for FFXIII...

The PS3 version is NOT being delayed for the port. Just the localization. It will be released in japan on the PS3 only while the rest in the west will have to wait.

Nice good looking game. Probably going to be great. But i'm buying it from the 15$ bin one year after its release hahaha. Enix F'ed us over GOOD. I'm not supporting em for crap. Whats so bad about waiting one more year anyway. We already have one more year to wait because of the damned 3sh i t t y version and Bill Gay.
