New PS3 firmware update to improve music playability

Posted on October 23rd, 2007 at 04:24 EDT

Sony has stated that the company aims to continue expanding upon the media functions of the PlayStation 3.

According to a recent report, "within a month, a software upgrade will improve the PS3's interface for music stored and played through the system."

Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Patrick Seybold, however, emphasizes "we haven't made any specific announcements on upcoming firmware." Could it be In-Game XMB? We can only speculate.

It will be interesting to see what Sony plans to offer consumers in North America. While Europe gets PVR capabilities, the US has yet to receive any similar form of functionality.

Peter Dille, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SCEA added, "Some of that same functionality are things that we're working on here."

Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.

It sounds great, hope everyone worldwide gets the same treatment...after all, we're all playing with the same system (one way or anther)! I just hope games don't become regionalised in the future! Due to some games being band in some countries, I want to make sure I don't miss out...on some games anyway.  Although, I believe there are games from the world of the rising sun that'll we never see in the western world! =D

I think we may be getting this firmware before the week is over!  There were rumors of Ratchet and Clank shipping with a newer firmware but it was only 1.94.  These are just rumors though so time will tell.

I'm pretty sure PVR will be a WORLDWIDE feature. I doubt Sony would only release it in Europe since they would make more money if all the territories had it? Maybe they'll figure something out about how music is organized. Looking for a song when you have thousands really sucks

I hate to speculate. I'll leave that to you guys.  I just hope it's worth something, not one of those "expanded game compatability" crap-dates.

@DaBears

I think 1.94 will be shipped on the blu-ray sdisc of the Rarchet game. 1.94 will add compatibability to the Dualshock 3 controllers. It seems early but I think Sony are anticipating that many will import a dualshock 3 from Japan.

I'm not sure how Sony plans to use PVR in Europe? In the UK will Sony use the freeview service to record from. The thing with freeview is it isn't widely availible throughout the UK. Many areas cannot receice a freeview transmission and the switch from analog to digital won't happan in some areas untill 2011. My area is 2009, I have cable so I hope the PVR can be hooked up to that?
