New footage of Sony’s forthcoming online social networking platform, PlayStation Home, has surfaced online following the company’s business event in Tokyo yesterday.

See below for the full video.

PlayStation Home was originally scheduled for release in Spring 2008; however, the company has since decided to delay its release further, with SCEI President and CEO, Kazuo Hirai, recently stating, “Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition."

An exact release date for the project has yet to be announced.

Stay tuned for further information as it breaks.

    @3

Yeah right.  You just remember that when you see all the people complaining about how that can't download it (or it's slow going) because of pure volume.  Then the complaints will go from "I don't care about it" to "Sony's stupid because it never works on the first day".

damn if they do, damn if they don't. sony releases home later when it near perfect and little to no bugs or they release it now with potential faults. then you can say how sony did a banged up job and how the 360 is better. why sony rushed a half a** product? i'll take my chances with a delayed product  that works then a product that's rushed and doesn't work after a while.

Stop your constant complaining!!!  Exactly what some people have said, if they release now or soon and its not ready then your gonna sit here and just complain non stop about how its faulty and it doesnt work like it should. Stop expecting to be here and just like it when it does actually come out like I have. I'm a huge fan of video games and i'm excited about what were gonna have in the future, I enjoy what I have now and actually enjoy things when they are released instead of complaining about everything that sony isn't doing.

Yo everybody needs to shut up with the complaints. Yeah i would like home now but it isn't ready. They probably could release some half @55ed version right now but then you guys would complain that it wouldn't run right or something wasn't perfect. Shut up let sony come out with it when they are god damn ready

I think it's kind of retarded how you guys think that we should all stop complaining and wait patiently like the good little ps3 owners we are for sony to get things together with their products.  Sure I want my products to have little or no bugs on release, but the point is that a good company should have a product up and running at or before their deadline, which if i remember right was somewhere around last fall for home?  Now I love my playstation, even though it was delayed as well upon release (that was a manufacturing problem with bluray and really outside of sony's control anyway), but home has simply been a dissapointment to me.  It seems like these days video game developers are having more and more difficulty predicting their release dates, and are just throwing a guess up into the air that will sound good to consumers.

The point of this rant -

Don't give us a release date sony if your not going to follow up with your promises.

    @mortada

Home is not a game! Sony always speaks of it as a 'feature', which it also is!

I doubt you can meet a lot of people and chat with them with both text and voice chat in Sims. You'd probably never be able to launch a 7th-gen game with your friends through Sims too...

The facts are these. Home just isnt ready yet. They show you cool little videos to keep you intersted in what it's supposed to do when it IS finished, but it simply is NOT.I'm a beta tester and we constantly have to report the bugs and crashes and things that dont work correctly even now. If it were released today you'd just have MORE to complain about. Yes when people say you shouldn;t complain I can understand the annoyance but when people who are actually telling you it's not ready because they've actually USED it and know it isnt ready then you should understand: IT'S NOT READY YET.

You want to complain? write emails directly to Kaz so he can put a fire under the slowa$s coders working on it.

yeah lol cool vid but the music was horrid lol

AND NO ONE IS GOING TO WANT HOME WITHOUT IT WORKING PROPERLY SO CLOSE YOUR PIE HOLE PLEASE

thank you Gadena EXACTLY! you people are so damn annoying if your not even interested because they are delaying it to MAKE IT WORK AS ADVERTISED why do you want it so bad? they are making sure it blows our expectations

doing something on this level is HARD home is a project of epic proportions the likes of which has never been done before (if someone says second life your a total dumb*** they are completely different do some research) if they released it tomorrow and it had one bug you would all whine and cry even more so  SO JUST STOP ALREADY YOU WHINING ISNT GOING TO HELP

i know it sucks waiting im with you there but sony is making sure it will be worth it listen to the beta tester above and come 2.4  we'll have all the features the competitors have anyway FOR FREE so as far as i am concerned home is icing on the cake

  34. bucko | BuckoDessie

    • 4:22am BST - June 28th, 2008

How will the open beta work? Will they just launch it as a download on PSStore? Fall can't come soon enough :D

  35. Atreides

    • 3:19am BST - June 29th, 2008

    @ bucko

Thats how its done with the close beta, I  dont see why it would change.

If Sony was making a game that was only half finished and gave you screenshots and videos of it in action on a regular basis, none of you would be saying "Just release the damn game half finished and finish it up later" like you all are now.

Home lacks some crucial features right now, and if they released it right now, you would all complain about it not having certian features from the start (Like you whinners do with In Game XMB).  Be patient.  Good things come to those who wait.

As it is, as a beta tester, I find Home completely useless in its current state (no more than a novelty), so by releasing it now they wouldnt be doing anyone a favor, let them complete it.

Albeit, as big of a Sony fan as I am, I dont see myself ever using Home unless I want to play a free bowling game :)  If I didnt have a PC for "online communties" like IM and Forums, then I might find it a bit more interesting,

  36. Daneroy | NeoDaneroy

    • 5:23am BST - June 29th, 2008

More fun than a barrel on monkeys!  HOME stories still pull a lot of comments, the delays almost build the anticipation even higher.

  37. Atreides

    • 11:22am BST - June 29th, 2008

    @ Daneroy

You are not missing much, honestly if I could "transfer" my Home "membership" to someone else so they could use it instead, I would do so in a heart beat.  I only know one other gamer IRL that has Home beta, and he would probably do the same.

And I am a hardcore "Sony is the absolute best" fanboy (Ill sink or swim with Sony), so this isnt some anit-PS3 bias, its just a perspective from someone who doesnt see any usefulness to Home (other than like Virtual E3 events).

Maybe I will feel differently when its complete, but I dont honestly see myself ever using it, and neither does my IRL PS3 gamer friend.
