New platinum trophy design in firmware 2.41

With the release of firmware 2.41, Sony has added a few minor updates to the PlayStation 3 system along with fixing the bugs that occurred in last week’s 2.40 release. One of the new updates includes a brand new look for the platinum trophies; replacing the previous design with a new crystal-like aesthetic.

the trophy concept is cool but sony's implementation, once again, has been horrible. if a system has a feature that no games support (yeah yeah yeah stardust whatever has trophies...who cares) is it really a feature? sony should have been working with developers who will be patching their games to make sure said patches are live within a few days of 2.4.

I agree jaybiv. It sucks that only one game supports trophies right now. However, i loved Super Stardust HD so I am extremely grateful that trophies are in that game but we need more support for the system. Come on game dev's, hook us up!!

@jaybiv: AGREED. Its about time someone else had this kind of common sense, the same sense of which we agree Sony has not. And also, what about in-game music? That is arguably more useful than having four pictures of trophies and numbers respectively to their right. Who wants to listen to Gt5p's less-than-stellar ingame music, when you have (or at least I do) several hundred more suitable songs setting useless right over in the music file. Even more realistically, all a patch for this would have to do is convert your music temporarilly into the game's native file format and change the standard music directory to the music folder.

@jaybiv: I AGREE ALSO... didn't they say sometime ago that the "MEDALS" achieved in games such as Lair, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Uncharted will somehow be integrated to Sony's gamerscore system??? Well, fast forward... the MEDALS are now TROPHIES... and yup... they are not retroactive... Personally, I like the Medals achieved in Uncharted and in R6V2. People just wanna see an overall score somewhere on their screen and for others to see their achievements. Yeah, it's pointless to have this system when few games support it. That is why, 3rd party titles (as well as 360 exclsuive games) are always preferred on the 360 because players can earn bragging rights on EVERY game they play on that system. Sony can do the same thing. I'm just not sure why they are not pushing the developers or themselves to integrate these "MEDALS" and translate them into their trophy system.

trophies are crap wheres in-game music? i think the whole update is useless theres no point on having the in-game xmb if i cannot access any of the resources built on it.

Wow Sony, great way to get it sooooo wrong. While you were thinking trophies, trophies, trophies....everyone else was thinking music, music, music. I still don't understand why it needs to be left up to the game developers to get the in-game music going. Is it really going to affect gameplay that much more if you just make it a standard PS3 feature instead of a feature the game developers will have to update each individual game for? Personally, if it comes down to it, I'd be willing to give up a few frames-per-second, or whatever to listen to my own music when I want to. Even if you couldn't do it that way, you should have at least been getting the developers to update their games so we could have something compatable with the release 2.40/41. MGS4, COD4, GTA4, Elder Scrolls 4....ANYTHING WITH A "4" IN THE TITLE SHOULD HAVE HAD IN GAME MUSIC BY NOW!!!

it never FAILS no matter what they give and give people never satisfied. first it was complaining about not having trophies, now its oh this game and this game should have it or its i want in game music etc. etc.. they just released it last week and it was bugged and they just fixed and released it yesterday. GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO GET IT STRIGHT FIRST before complaining about a whole new project. they rushed to get this out I'm sure there working to see what previous title game would work with trophies and in game music. till then fall back and stop crying about what should and shouldn't be there

Denali2 is right. Nothing can satisfy some people. Isn't it nice that we don't have to pay for this service, yet we get fw updates fairly regularly? Then there are the trophies... did you all assume that the moment the update was available, every game would have trophies? Sony's doing a decent job of making PSN as nice as Xbox's service... plus Home is coming... all at no cost to PS3 gamers... and all I hear is moaning. These are great new additions to our gaming. Give them time to be implemented.

Sony are great with Hardware..... not software (part from game studios) i knew thy werent going to get it right but no need to bible bash them.... thy got the foundations .... i can read my messages and im happy to wait for them to implement in game music & trophies!

Apparently a ton of spoiled, bratty children received PS3s last Christmas. Nothing is ever good enough for these kids! Also, its plainly simple why trophies aren't retroactive.. if all you needed to get a trophy was a saved game that already achieved it, everyone would have them all unlocked since you can download 100% complete save files from a million different sites. At least this way, you actually have to EARN the trophy, plus you'll soon have a fresh new reason to play the games that are just collecting dust now otherwise (for some games anyway).

I'm sure alot of us paid the $600 and like many of us we didn't have an inkling of what the psn is right now, not to mention the lack of games. However, just within a year and a half it has turned a complete 180 and has an identity now. Patience is definately a virture and with all the games out now no one should be crying foul about a few incomplete features. Keep reminding yourselves that it's a 10 year cycle.

they are working with devs alot of them are probably busy at the moment with new projects i mean damn the feature has only been out a week give it a chance i mean yeah if a month from now no other games have trophies there is a problem but come on do you really think sony would spend so much time on a feature and not use it? GO READ IGNs TAKE ON IT!!! NOW
and you chronic whiners out there SHUT UP my god you are getting a service that most pay $50 a year for FOR FREE you dont have to pay for it why are you complaining ill say it once again STFU its a sad think when seemingly 70% of people on here are 32 year olds who think they are 4 living in their moms basement have no jobs and have nothing better to do than to annoy everyone with their constant b****ing you have gotten well worth what you paid for a blu ray player, awesome games that are not possible on any other platform, a free an now full featured online service, robust media capabilites, varied and fun downloadable content, and reliable hardware, with more on the way! what more do you want? you want it to wipe your a** for you too? jeez

i think that the trophy system is tight but the thing is that no games support it..... its kinda like havin a ps3 without any games or bluray movies....lol.... its really nice but its kinda just ther

@ HazdoTT, I agree. These features just came out, and for free. All of the groundwork has already been implemented, so people just need to be a little patient for sony to finish.
