Watch Dogs 2 will be hacking a PS4 near you in 2017

Speaking during its latest financial call overnight, Ubisoft announced that a sequel to Watch Dogs will launch during the French publisher’s fiscal 2017.

The company let slip the news during confirmation of its plans for the upcoming financial year, where the publisher "will launch a very high-quality line-up, including For Honor, South Park the Fractured but Whole, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon WildLands, the next instalment of Watchdogs, and a new high-potential AAA brand with strong digital live services."

While an exact release date has yet to be set in stone, we can expect Watch Dogs 2 to be released by March 31, 2017.

Watch Dogs 2 has been rumored for some time now, with the title appearing on the LinkedIn profile of a Ubisoft employee last year, and recent reports have suggested the game will be set in San Francisco. It’s also been suggested the sequel will show its face at E3 this year.

While Ubisoft hasn’t until now officially confirmed that it’s working on Watch Dogs 2, the publishing giant has touched base on a potential follow-up in the past. Back in April 2014, the firm said that a sequel wouldn’t take as long to develop as the original game, and in January last year revealed that it would take more risks with a new instalment in the series.

The original Watch Dogs was released in May 2014 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. By early June, the title had reached over four million copies sold worldwide. Read our review of the game here.
