No Unreal Tournament 3 PS3 demo, says Rein

Epic Games boss Mark Rein has stated that the company is unlikely to issue a demo of the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tourament 3, despite plans to release one for the PC.

Speaking to Eurogamer at the recent Leipzig Games Convention, Rein stated, "We'll have a PC demo for UT, [but] I don't think we'll have a PS3 demo before the game ships.”

Logistically, Rein explained that any time spent on focusing on a demo release would inevitably draw attention away from the final version of the game. As an example, he drew similarities with last year’s Xbox 360 title Gears of War, stating, "What we told Microsoft last year - they wanted a demo for Gears of War and we said 'you've got a choice - you can have the demo this year or the game this year'."

"We're not a big huge company with the resources to do that, and all the time we're testing that demo we're not testing our full game, which we need to be doing constantly," explained Rein.

For the PC, however, the process is fundamentally a different task in which any demo would effectively play a similar role to that of a beta version, allowing the developer to refine certain elements as they see fit.

Unreal Tournament 3 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 and PC this November. An Xbox 360 version will arrive in 2008.

I honestly don't need a demo to know this will be a great game.  Their track record is too good, and this is a must buy for me no matter what.

We need no demo for UT3 just bring it out. Before, demos were exclusive to those who could afford to pay for subscription magazines. Now we get from time to time. UT3 just like GOW will ROCK especially since it is on PS3.

    That works out pretty well.

The more time they spend on the final game for PS3, the better.

The problem with demos is that you can't always just hand off a peice of the game and expect it to work properly. if they just chop out a level and hand it to you as a demo, it runs the rick of crashing randomly in spots that would render the game either useless or destroy the intent of the demo, to give you an appealing case to buy the full version.

Atleast thats a quality answer, thanks Rein. That being said I prefer demo's but respect the reason behind their decision. Looks like a rent before a buy, whereas demo's make that decision for me.

What a bunch of crap.  I like Unreal period, so im not complaining, but there are people on the fence about this game and a demo could help them seal the deal with more sales.

I'm tempted to get this on PC. I like mods, and a keyboard and mouse set up for this game. Its a little difficult trying to work that combo on the PS3 with the keyboard balanced on my lap in front of the television...
