No plans for FFXIII DLC at present, says Square

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has said that Square has no firm plans to release any downloadable content for the highly anticipated RPG as of yet, though hinted it may be on the cards for "future projects."

Speaking to the chaps at VG247, Kitase said via a translator: “As far as DLC is concerned, there is no solid plan at the moment for FFXIII,” adding, “However, we’ve been listening to overseas fans in Europe and North America and are aware that DLC is very popular and something that people really want.”

“So it’s definitely being considered for future projects.”

Square previously touched on the possibility of FFXIII DLC earlier this year, suggesting it would not likely tie directly into the game’s story line, instead focusing on additional content such as items, enemies and areas – that’s assuming it ever sees the light of day, of course.

Final Fantasy XIII is due out on PlayStation 3 in Japan this winter, followed by a western release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2010. The game will be featured at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.

As long as none of it is console-exclusive then I'm not complaining.

But I'm sure Microsoft read this and immediatly took out their wallet. lol

They can't do DLC since the PS3 version is suffering due to the multiplatform release

I agree with you number 1. DLC just makes the game a lot more expensive. Usually you pay 10 dollars for something that only lasts for about 3-4 hours. The game is better off without it. I have high hopes for this game and VS.

I'm glad there's no DLC. I would hate for them to make you pay for something that would normally just be in the game anyway. I love the FF series, and that's WITHOUT DLC. Keep it that way!!!

@4 I totally agree. Then there are games (Like COD and Killzone) where not everybody gets the "new" DLC so it really just turns out to be a waste of money.

Bullshet. I believe that everything that was cut out from the original ps3 game to accomodate the xbox version is probably done and ready to go. Wouldn't be surprised if DLC is released around the same time when the game finally gets released.

I would not be opposed to free DLC of course. Other than that, this is a good thing.

    @17

Square confirmed the game will release in Europe in Spring around the exact same time as the NA version.

DLC for this would be awesome as long as it's released several months after release.

Theyre will be. Square likes to make international editons with new stuff for every game. Final fantasy X had the dark summon fights, 12 had the zodiak job system thing, kingdom hearts 1 and 2 both got "final mix" versions, ect... Ruby and Emerald weapon were excusive the U.S. version of final fantasy 7. DLC makes updated versions a thing of the past.

I wouldn't mind paying for DLC.

But I hate it when PR/devs/pubs announces that there will already be a DLC on the game's release date or 2-3 weeks after the game is released.

Just the game as it is, is enough. This games are really complex specially FF games. A DLC would take at least 6 to 12 month at least. This game will take around 100hrs + hours to finish it and without even going through everything.

Square Enix on downloadable content for FF XIII don't make me laugh when will we see it in 2016....

i have to disagree DLC is a wonderful thing for gaming now. but when companise like EA/EA Sports release a game on tuesday then come thruseday with dlc they make it look bad. look at Burnout they did there dlc right, if this was PS2 days Big Surf Island would have been the next Burnout.

  28. vietguy1127

it would have took them another 5yrs just to come out with the dlc anyways. just speed up your damn development time who care about the dlc.

    • 2:08am BST - September 9th, 2009

Wtf? People actually are asking for dlc? Well, Personally, I dont, like it but well. I prefer that they give us a ton of things in the full game, rather than give us a few things to play with in the disc, and then pay for more dlc.

The thing is that, if they arent planning right now on dlc, that means that the game is gonna be FULL, That's good to hear =) I just hope they speed up with the realease of the game =)
