No slim-line PS2 for the UK

Posted on August 28th, 2008 at 12:18 EDT

According to Eurogamer, Sony has revealed that it has no plans to release the new slim-line PlayStation 2 model in UK territories.

“We won’t be releasing the new model PS2 in the UK,” a spokesperson confirmed.

Originally unveiled in July 2008, this latest iteration of the multi-million selling home console offers a “slimmer, sleeker and more suave” atheistic to the current unit though lacks an external AC adapter.

Despite the redesigned unit not appearing in the UK, Sony did confirm that the new SKU has made its way into other parts of Europe, adding, “It has launched in a few SCEE territories already.”

When UK stock runs out they'll release it. They just don't want people holding off on buying the current version for the new one.

The PS2 is slim enough. When is Sony going to stop supporting the PS2? Just move full support to the PS3 already!

They're selling more PS2s than PS3s per month...why would they give up on it?

man, i hope my country is one of those "few SCEE territories". cause i'll be get a new ps2 soon. my 60gb ps3 can play most ps1/ps2 games but not all and my old ps2 turns itself off at times.

@10 well theres already like 5 diff kinds now.. 20gb,60gb,40gb,80gb,160gb. The ps2 only had 2 versions, the fat one and the slim one.. I hope they don't make the PS3 where they add new stuff to newer PS3's so you have to upgrade or buy a new one, like a computer..

There's the slim PS3 we know but there;s also a slimmER  one that reduces the hardware in a much less visible way. the new version is hardly that important, whether they release it there or not they're still selling to people who are years behind the curve, Some countries are JUST getting into the meat of the PS2 generation and arnt even ready to hear about PS3.
