Not enough space on Blu-ray for MGS4

Most people assumed that Sony's decision to use Blu-ray as its format on the PlayStation 3 was unnecessary figuring that few, if any, games would take advantage of the 25-50GB a disc could offer. Less than 3 months from its release, Hideo Kojima has now revealed that Blu-ray's capacity has limited what Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots could have been.
In an interview with Famitsu, Kojima revealed that Guns of the Patriots did indeed suffer cuts in order to fit the game onto a Blu-ray disc. The disc used for MGS4 is of the 50GB kind, which is roughly six times the capacity of a regular DVD, and the game has been skimped down as to only include local audio tracks and forced Metal Gear Online to be shipped on a seperate disc because of the lack of space. Kojima's actual quote (translated from Famitsu) was: "There's not enough space. We always talked about where to cut and what to compress."
The Metal Gear franchise has always been known for being dialogue-heavy, but MGS4 is set to outdo its predecessors. With the stunning visuals and the possibility of an extensive amount of dialogue outstripping even a Blu-ray disc, this should leave fans excited for the final product. This bit of news should also be enough of a deterrent for Xbox 360 hopefuls that keep hoping that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be defecting to the Xbox 360 because it would be hard to imagine the game being 6 discs long.

They just want to sell MGS Online separately. I cannot see any reasons. There were rumours about MGS Online can head to 360 as well. I think that all that data is non compulsary, I mean non engine related stuff. Just look at Assassin's Creed huge open world. The art style of buildings is similar. Lots of codec talks can be compared to Mass Effeect, or even previous MGS. They want to get more money and Konami knows that even single player game will be sold.

There putting there heart and soul in to this game, we all know it, they wont leave anything out that would hurt the core game. The worst that can happen is maybe another large install like DMC4 and we might miss out on the next gen Snake Vs. Monkey :P

www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4755645 This link will guide you through the EASY process of getting a brand new retail Playstation 3! Here is how it works! First and foremost this is NOT like those other offers you see all over the web, where you are required to sign up for a million "free" offers that end up taking forever and costing you a bunch of money and a headache. You click this link and sign up for their referral program. That’s it! Once you sign up for your ONE required offer you use the link they provide you and post it on forums, or send it to friends, and if someone uses that link to sign up and complete one offer of their own, you get a referral. Here is the cost breakdown of the referral system. 8 Referrals = New retail 40gb PS3 10 Referrals = New retail 60gb PS3 12 Referrals = New retail 80gb PS3 and ONE game of your choice 14 Referrals = New retail 80gb Ps3 and two games YOU CHOSE (includes new releases like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune or Ratchet and Clank Future etc…) Plus many more PS3 offers and others including up to $475 in CASH I have been a member for 3 days and have 10 completed referrals on my account, well on my way to my chosen 14 (Already enough for a 60gb or 40gb PS3). I also have 250 people, who have signed up; if any 4 of them complete an offer I have my Ps3 and two games. It can take up to 3 days for a completed offer to process, so I may have already reached my goal. The company even covers shipping and handling so there is no hidden costs of ANY KIND. This website even has you create an account so you can track your progress the entire way through, and once your package ships, they supply a UPS tracking link. It is extremely user friendly I recommend you research this company online, as they are proven legitimate and not in any way a scam. EGM magazine actually did a story on them 2 years ago to see if they were legit and did in fact get a free system, so they proved it worked! The way it is possible is these sponsor's pay this company money for referring people to them, and using a portion of that money, buy you a PS3 as an incentive for helping them advertise. It is a pretty nice scheme, but it results in me getting something for free so I don't care. This will be my third free thing to get from this company; I have a 360 elite and iPhone for the cost of about 5 dollars. Enjoy your free system, free isn't a bad deal for a great console and a Blu-Ray player! www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4755645

That is going to be so cool. Maybe they will break out the disks with more layers in a year or so. They can already make a 200gb blu-ray disk, we would just need a firmware update. Doesnt sound like we will be getting those superdisks before mgs4.

I would have to ask Konami one question after reading this. Why not put the game on 2 discs? This way you would not have to cut anything out, because I would hate to know that they had to cut out environments or other key things just to get the game to fit on one disc. This game will still be awesome either way and is a must buy for PS3 fans.

you need more then firmware to read the disc that is gonna be 200 GB, 2 discs kinda destroys the "future" part even tho people wouldnt mind if the game was great, making it in one disc seems better feat. Btw having complete next gen offer even tho not more then 5% have high-end setup is good. Having sound is today as important as visuals so this game should be more then enough to amaze gamers genral. Im still dissapoint halo got 10 i wonder what great games that are atleast 2 times better then halo 3 will get. They had to destroy their ratings because of fanboys.

impressive, speaks volumes to the game. The wording is tricky though, it has been translated that MGS online is packaged seperately, not necessarily sld seperately. Interested to see how that will pan ot, regardless I'll get both. You can't complain about a game famine and then not par take in the grand feast.

I think mgs4 will satisfy most of us even if there wasnt enough space plus its an "Exclusive".
On g4 last week last of february there was this journalist from iam8bit.com in the loop segment the host kev. p. mentioned to the guy yeah metal gear 4 is coming out in june it haves a release date is it anything your expecting.
And then the journalist went on to say ill wait for a 360 version of the game to release and he was teary eyed lol and blushin since how it just came off way too fanboyish , and i was thinking um.. ok and how since hes that confident its going to be made then no problem with 6 to 8 discs and how he would think it was worth it because how they could fit everything onto every disc.

Oh my God, I had no idea that MGS4 would use a 50GB Blu-Ray disc, I was thinking that it would only be a 25GB disc. Man, I can't wait for this. Plus, Hideo Kojima said that it would be a PS3 exclusive, and Konami confirmed that it would be a PS3 exclusive, yet Xbox fans still think it's coming to the 360... Ha ha ha!! If they want to get this game, they will have to get a PS3. I've always said that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the game that will convert Xbox fanboys to PS3 owners.

When I pre-ordered my copy of MGS 4, the employee at Game Stop actually had the balls to ask me for what system. I laughed and said, "The only system its coming out for, PS3". To which he replied, "Well they'll eventually port it to 360". I then reminded him of Hido's numerous anouncments of it being exclusive. To which he replied ," I don't even care, I dont even like the Metal Gear series". LOL you Xbots crack me up.

What kind of game they making that woudlnt fit a 50GB BR disk? Thats real sick. Maybe a 2nd disk and split the game up or just reale the game on a 80 gb hard drive.
Still, its kind of crazy to think theres already a game that doesnt fit a 50GB disk. They are starting to unlease sick power in the PS3 to the point where they will have to hold back a bit. Crazy.

Why are people saying that Metal Gear Online is sold separately. The starter pack is included with MGS4 and the DLC will be released later. It says so right here: http://www.psu.com/MGS-Online-starter-pack-included-in-MGS4,-DLC-will-follow-News--a2379-p0.php
Just how Halo 3 technically comes with the matchmaking starer pack and the DLC maps were released later. It's the same thing. I don't understand how anyone who visits this site is complaining about buying metal gear online separately.
