With Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War still weeks from release, Activision has whipped the camo off Call of Duty 6. The big reveal came at the company's Analyst Day conference, as reported by Shacknews.

In news which will delight fans of the fourth Call of Duty - which still commands a huge PSN following - Infinity Ward is at the wheel again this time round.

There's been a bit of a kerfuffle over the release schedule though, with Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith declaring "in 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6," at the start of his presentation, but later commenting "for calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the franchise."

Just trying to keep the retailers on their toes, we suspect - unless by "next installment" he means Call of Duty 7. One major announcement at a time please, guys.

Lets hope they stick with the modern warfare theme, make the game longer, create a lot more multiplayer maps and make them HUGE, maybe even add a map creator and utilize the Blu Ray disk

I agree with you richkaos I don't think it would be sufficinet enough just to add more maps that are bigger and better graphics etc. They need to add more to this game after the success of COD4 otherwise it will just be an updated version of COD4. Still COD has never really disappointed me but lets see if they can push the boat out further. Think I may give COD5 a go but I won't buy it new not with all the other games coming out.

BTW does anyone remember the battlefield type game they were apparently developing I wonder what has happened to that?

Dang 7 COD games, besides the spin-offs....frickin awesome. I'm beginning to like more of the COD series than the MOH series

psn id: gingo.... i kinda hope they go all out and try and make an unbelievable and immersive Vietnam game, it would be amazing if they could nail the guerilla warfare and keep players on their toes going through the jungle

Wouldn't mind to have another Modern Warfare game, but however going through the sci-fi which would spoil the franchise.

Agree with Gingo, a Vietnam game coud be really awesome, but then again, whatever setting it will be, it will probably at least be a good game anyway. hey, it's infinity ward :D

    To RabidCuj0-

In order to run COD4 at 1080p, you have to go in your display settings and uncheck 720p.  Then it will run in 1080p.

Let's try implementing some split-screen co-op and LAN capabilities eh?  That was the only downfall of this game was the lack of split-screen.  There's nothing better than 8 people in an intense 4v4 match in 2 separate rooms.

....y'know, there are times when Yahtzee is completely correct.

IW, can we please see a new IP soon? Yes we get it, COD is an awesome series, great games, but the theme is getting stagnant, please do something else

This time around I would love to see co-op campaign, added perks, destructible environments i.e BF Bad Company style.

    My wishes for COD6

    1. stick to the modern warfare theme.

    2. give full support to this game, or have a support team.

    3. fix the lag issue with COD4, it's frustrating to empty a full clip on an enemy, they kill you and the kill cam shows you standing like an a...hole waiting to be killed and not firing a single bullet.

That's the problem.  A lot of you guys got spoiled with the whole modern warfare crap.  Call of Duty works well in the WWII time frame.  CoD4 seemed like a blatent hijack of all modern war games.  Now because of it, number 5 won't see the light of day as a sucessful game cuz everyones gonna be moanin about how its still WWII.  Forget the modern stuff and keep givin me more unique WWII gameplay.  I'll be gladly spending my money on 5.

    • 1:11am BST - September 17th, 2008

@Dreamsofanarchy, that's not the problem. The problem is that there are a gazillion WWII games out there. The WWII theme is way overused, you know there have been a lot of wars out there, and not just WWII. If they want to stay retro, there was Vietnam there's good game material, how about the Cuban Missile Crisis? you can create an alternate reality were it became a real nuclear war or WW3.

cod5 will not do the numbers that cod4 did. so many people are turned off by the wwll stuff. me and many others like me will keep or $60 bucks in our pockets. if cod6 returns to a modern theme count me in. but if they continue the wwll stuff i guess there happy with being just a ok game. not great like cod4 was.
