PS3 Orange Box gimped?

Gabe Newell, the man behind Half-Life development studio Valve Software, hasn't been too fond of Sony's system during this current console generation. He recently cited the PS3 as "a waste of everybody's time" in a semi-recent interview.
Following that mantra, Valve developed Half-Life 2: Orange Box for the PC and 360 in-house, but shoved PS3 development duties onto an unknown EA team.
The swap hasn't been beneficial thus far. Originally promised to release the same day as the other versions, The Orange Box on PS3 has seen numerous delays and is now scheduled for release sometime this December. Unfortunately, even after multiple delays, it appears the title will be another gimped port for Sony's system.
1UP got their hands on a near-final build of the PS3 version and came away underwhelmed. They state that the title runs akin to "a slideshow," especially during the vehicular segments of Half-Life 2. Strangely, Portal is a rock-solid port, appearing identical to its 360 and PC brethren. No word yet on the heavily anticipated Team Fortress 2, as a server connection issue prevented any play whatsoever.
It's not looking good for The Orange Box on PS3. EA only has a little bit of time to fix the glaring framerate problems within Valve's Half-Life 2. More news on The Orange Box soon.

gabe newell is such an @55 I will not be supporting any of his games from here on out it seems it seems he has no concern for any PS3 owners what so ever.

This must be so embarrasing for them. Especially when Call of Duty was done so well. They are the Arizona Cardinals of developing. The PS3 is a waste of Newells time and Gabe Newells games are a waste of our time. Thanks for nothing.

It's a waste of time reading crappy disappointing news like this, I rather read about FFXIII news again! JUST CANCEL THIS -AAA GAME!!! I'd rather play UT3! For sure.

c'mon people, its the Source engine, why not just buy it for PC? runs better, its less expensive, an its control better, Im a PS3 fan, but buying this for console is like buying Age of Empire II for PS2 :P

Once again, I can only say that EA must have inept programmers, or are deliberately trying to make PS3 look bad. A year into the life of the machine, and when you see the wonders that others are producing, there is no excuse whatsoever for EA to keep churning out shoddy crap like this.

this only hurts valve. its stupid to gimp your product just because you don't like the platform. if he did this earlier it would not have been so bad, but now the PS3's momentum is insane right now. i never met a person that wanted to lose money so badly. also why would you want your product to look bad. i wouldn't care if i hated the system or not, my game is not going to look bad

Don’t buy it it's a waste of money because valve hasn’t cared less even calling the console a complete waste of time, how dare he, and by the way team fortress is rubbish, hifelife epd two is the best game on there and of course portal but halflife two it's self is looking dated i played this three years ago on pc, but with ea doing the game i wouldn't bother buying this.

well much as i dislike EA the real blame goes to Vavle because since their so stuck in the past and cant program on updated hardware instead of trying to learn they take the easy route and passes production over to EA lets hope something decent comes out of this

HAHAHAHA!!! GABE, Once again you fail to live up to your programming status... You're and idiot and should stick to what you're comfortable with.. PC.. as good as you are with the PC... you are an unmotivated and unimaginitive individual when it comes to getting out of your comfort zone.... You don't want to make it for the PS3 then don't pawn it off on some hack and expect PS3 owners to buy into it... Just don't make it... Thats why we applaud Call of Duty Developers and UTIII devs, because they put the effort it and realize what can be achieved with a little work... You! on the other hand... Oh why bother... you know you're not worth it! Just don't talk down the system. Be professional.. And if the game is gimped... its because of the gimps making it, not the system!

I was only interested in this for portal, but I played through it on PC instead. If Portal runs fine, the orange box could be worth a hire just for that. Otherwise, stay away, by the sounds of it.

Orange Box is a fantastic package so its a shame that people who dont have access to a PC are getting a crap port thats being shoved together by another company. Personally I think games like this and Crysis, COD 4, UT3, Kane & Lynch etc... are really made for PC so I dont understand why anyone would consider them for PS3 anyway.

i was thinking about this game cause i liked half-life, but after that idiot Newell made his statement. this game became, as Newell stated a waste of time. so this game is blackballed in my mind, i don't even care if this was the greatest ps3 game ever made, but i doubt it will even make a blimp on the radar. my pride won't let me buy this shi?, i not give money to that company.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gabe's game is not worth it. If EA was smart them they would go to Gabe and say "Here, you can have your box back and you can shove it were the sun don't shine!" Valve is really not cut out for real technoligy(ps3). All of the devs. need to upgrade from xbox 360 hardware(old) to Ps3 hardware(NEW!) If anything the ps3 is its own and the newist generation. Valve can't handle the truth.

EA sucks sooooo much.....Infinity Ward rocked the PS3 with COD4 and that should have been a message to EA that it is possible to make an amazing game for the PS3 if you didn't whine so much and just friggin dedicate yourself to making a game....EA is full of 360 fanboys....

damn i was wanting to get this too. 3 games for the price of one. and portal looks like so much fun. but im not going to give any money to someone who bashes sony and dosent even try to make it good.

this sucks. sorry but i kinda wanted to play the, "best game ever". but now i can't because some fat@55 has to whine about how the PS3 is a little different than the other consoles which makes it a little harder to develop for. if you hate the PS3 so much then why did you even bother with making a port?

Ps3 owners need to take a stand and not buy these half asshed games. just becuase the title is half life the company figures we will buy it anyway. i was really looking forward to this game but now the people valve software can choke on there own F.U.L.C.K.ED Up poor excuse for a game.

Who Really Cares? HL Sucks anyways. I mean my flatm8 has the orange box 4 xbox360. not really interested. As for 'Waste of everyones time' , sounds like some1 cudn't get the hang of the PS3 so he just shoves it off to another EA. The reason they'll be struggling with it is coz they didn't program it in the first place. tbh if ppl want this game get it 4 pc. to Me Valve games are a waste of money. The only game that would interest me would be team fortress but meh, I seen plenty better shooters.
