PS3 development was easy, says COD4 developer

It's been a common excuse for underwhelming early PS3 releases, but according to Infinity Ward, the developer of the Call of Duty series, developing the game on the PlayStation 3 was easy.
Many a developer has moaned at the complexity of the code behind sony's next-gen console, but there were no problems for Infinity Ward as they worked on the newly released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
They put their success down to the fact that they do not dedicated more energy to one platform - and in fact spread out resources and split up teams to work on the game across the different platforms.
Prioritising one console over the other has resulted in many games being released earlier on one console, and later on another - with the PS3 release of certain games often coming after the Xbox 360 release.
The developer stated, “There’s obviously some problem with all the delays we’re witnessing. I think it’s just down to allocation of resources. I think maybe people feel that they’re resource strapped and feel a little bit more comfortable working on the Xbox 360 as it’s been out a little longer [than the PS3].”
“We haven’t had any problems [with PS3] and that’s probably because of our development philosophy. We develop content-agnostic so we don’t have a lead platform. We have a team working on each of the different versions and everyone else forms a team who makes the content platform agnostic.”

I've heard no complaints from other top developers who haven't released the 'BIG' games yet...seems like it's the multi-platform BIG companies who do all the whining!!! To think, that EA has big powerplants around the world with so many highly competent programmers...you'd expect them to release perfect playing games in no time (mostly for sports games anyway!). COD4 is definitely on my b4 xmas list! And so is Uncharted...if they release a Collectors Edition! Ya tay!

That's fantastic...... If the PS3 is easy to program for... why do the 360 and PS3 versions of the game look Identical? what about using that "untapped" PS3 power...Don't get me wrong the game is frickin cool and yeah i know I should be happy that it is... but i didn't hold out for a year for the PS3 with the much touted horsepower to get the same thing on another console... Yes I know its still early and games like Uncharted and Ratchet are remarkable but.. remember.. "easy to develop for" was the statement...If so... show me what my beastie can do!!!

This just proves that companies like EA are just lazy and will follow whoever can make them the most money at the time.If sony ever gets back on top i hope they make EA pay for making terrible ps3 games i.e. framerate then blaming it on the hardware.Blackball them sony.

Good to hear stuff like this. I might try out CoD4 just because they finally moved from the WWII scenario. I don't normally like war games like these but it might be worth a shot, since it's supposed to be better than GRAW2 and I liked the GRAW2 demo.

This is why games like COD4, RFOM, Motorstorm, Ratchet and Clank Future, GTA4, MGS4, Killzone 2, GT5 and more are all great or going to be great games, because the developers are not afraid to get there hands dirty and put effort into developing the game, while others (EA) just wine about problems there having, instead of trying to find a solution.

this is the answer to the game delay issues. "Prioritising one console over the other has resulted in many games being released earlier on one console"

@ ultraviolentz: Yes I did read the post and because resourses are split into making content on 2 seperate platforms why are they still following one formula for two seperate systems??... Might as well just make for one and then port be it PS3 and port to 360 or vice versa... the Idea behind being able to develop for both systems at the same time is good but if you have teams dedicated to the individual systems shouldn't each team be capable of developing for the specific?... Content Agnostic simply means that we have one formula.. Lets split into groups and use that formula for each system so everyone gets equal treatment.. Oh wait the results are the same...Thats great... A game thats awesome on both systems... Kinda negates the fact that one system has advantages while the other does not. And because you have one formula its going to be easy across the board... Do something on one that you can't on another and see what happens to your gaming experience.

Ilike the sound of this. Ps3 is becoming developper friendly.I have always believed that with time the ps3 will be a common play ground for developpers.Infact experience is the best teacher; isn't history repeating itself, where developers complained the same way about the ps2?Well time will tell. For now let's just enjoy the present ps3 releases and anxiously await the future killer apps like MGS4 , FFXIII and the mighty GoW3.

straight up....I"M OLD TESTAMENT. not many people play games but i will bad mouth EA for the rest of this generation for having bad frame rates. THEY ARE GREEDY CREEPS. infintiy ward shows respect to players, veterans, and there craft. EA and MICROSOFT are in merge talks - this framerate issue they fabricated will prove the nonsense....look up "peter moore" if you do not beleive.
